the special meetings on June 9 and 12.
Mrs. Schindler welcomed new Trustees Margaret Brownley and Ron Cipriano, who
will take office on July 1.
Committee Reports
Building and Grounds: Mr. Falkenstein reported that the sun screen
film had been applied to the east, north and west windows of the
atrium. He also said that bids ranging from $750 to $1200 had
been obtained for 6' iron fencing for the area east of the Library
offices.
Personnel: No report.
Planning: No report.
Legislation: No report.
Old Business
CLSI: Mrs. Cole announced that the equipment had arrived that morning
in Oceanside after having been delayed in transit.
Statistics: Circulation was up 4,573 in May over May of 1977. Father
Driver asked about the decline in audience in the Audio-Visual
Department (-9946), and Mrs. Cole said she felt that It was because
the Serra System had been enforcing its policy to exclude schools
from film circulation. Refer to the monthly sheet for complete
statistics.
At this point, Mrs. Cole called on Trustee Hammond, who presented Mrs.
Schindler and Father Driver with certificates of appreciation for their long
and dedicated service to the Library and thanked them, on behalf of the
Board, for all they had done. They will be missed for their knowledge of
library affairs, their positive attitudes, and their geniality.
New Business
Jarvis-Gann: Mrs. Cole briefly mentioned that the Serra System had had
several meetings to discuss the effects of Proposition 13. All
member libraries have been asked to cut their budgets, and we must
wait to see what the results of all this will be.
Genealogy: No report in Mrs. McWilliams' absence.
Friends: Miss Ayars reported that the Book Fair exceeded $5,000 net
take this year (the total was $5001.53). She stated that the Friends
had received a gracious "thank you" note from Mayor Packard for the
Friends' gift of AV equipment to the Library. She mentioned that the
Friends are considering instituting a monthly magazine sale. And the
people at Hickory Farms have invited the Friends to take a tour,
which will give the Friends 50<j per person.
