HomeMy WebLinkAbout1978-07-19; Library Board of Trustees; MinutesCARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY BOARD Regular Meeting—July 19, 1978 LIBRARY OF TRUSTEES The meeting was called to order at 3:06 p.m. by acting chairman Munn. In attendance were Trustees Falkenstein, Hammond, and Cipriano. Also.Mr. Skot- nicki, City Council; Mrs. Cole, Librarian; Mr. Baldwin, Assistant City Manager and Mrs. McWilliams, Genealogical Society. The minutes of the June 21 meeting were approved as submitted. There were no committee reports given. Old Business CLSI: Mrs. Cole reported that three terminals have been installed and that on July 17 the staff began inputting registrations and parts of the collection. The job will take about six months to complete. Mr. Brookhart ably organized the process. Statistics: Circulation in June was up 3,651 over June of last year. Refer to the monthly sheet for details. Proposition 13: Mr. Skotnicki reported that the Council will begin budget hearings on July 25 and will continue hearings with a session on Saturday, August 5. The Council will take under advisement the recommendations of the citizens' committee regarding budget reductions and deletions. New Business Election of officers: Hammond nominated, with a second from Mr. Falken- stein, Mrs. Munn for President for 1978-79. Approved by general assent. Mrs. Munn moved, with a second from Mr. Falkenstein, that Mr. Hammond continue as secretary for 1978-79. Approved by general assent. Community Analysis Workshop: Geoff Armour and Ray Brookhart are to attend a Serra-sponsored workshop held at Carlsbad Library from July 19 to 22. The subject to be covered is the hows and whys of analyzing communities and library service. City budget review meeting: Tuesday, July 25. Genealogical Society As reported above, this will take place on Mrs. McWilliams presented a list of some 40 books and five periodicals given to the Library by the Society in May and June. Friends No report in Miss Ayars1 absence. Librarian Mrs. Cole suggested the Board form a public information committee and that the Board consider soliciting contributions from local businesses. Both suggestions met with tentative approval and will be discussed at greater length subsequently. Councilman Skotnicki wondered about the authority of the Trustees to solicit contributions.
