HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-01-16; Library Board of Trustees; MinutesCARLSBAD CITY LIBRARY LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES Regular Meeting - January 16, 1980 The meeting was called to order by President Falkenstein at 3:17 p.m. In attendance were Trustees Brownley, Cipriano, (Hammond arrived at 3:35 p.m.). Also: Miss Ayars, Friends; Mrs. easier, Council; Frank Aleshire, City Manager; Barbara Pursehouse, League of Women Voters; Mrs. McWilliams, Genealogical Society; Mrs. Cole, Library Director. The minutes of the December 19 meeting were approved as submitted. COMMITTEE REPORTS Building and Grounds: No report Budget: No report Personnel: Mrs. Brownley informed the Board that Colleen Holloway is the new Library Clerk II, who replaces Jim Anderson. Bob Williamson is the new A/V Technician. Children's Division: Mr. Cipriano reported to the Board on how the Finance Department had arrived at the $14 million figure for the library program. This was the figure used by Public Facilities Fee Committee and inquired about at the December Board meeting. OLD BUSINESS Discussion was held on the topic of goals and objectives. Although no' action was taken, the Board members present reiterated their dedication to the proposed central library and to expanded bookmobile service. Mrs. Brownley strongly urged the Board to continue its investigation of library use by non-Carlsbad residents. NEW BUSINESS Task Force: At its January 15 meeting, the Council tabled the request by the Board (ref: December minutes) for creation of a task force to pursue implementation of site selection for the central library facility. Library Program Statements: Trustees received a copy of a program state- ment prepared by the Library Director at the request of the City Manager. FRIENDS Miss Ayars reported that since July the Friends have earned $11,190 from the "Little Things" sales, the Broadway Opening party, and the sale of dictionaries. Yet to come are the Art Auction and Book Fair. She also reported that the Friends have purchased a piano for the conference room. The Friends' contributions to the library thus far into the year have been little short of incredible! GENEALOGY: No report. LIBRARIAN Mrs. Cole showed the Board a copy of an article from PSA Magazine on Airport '80. She announced that the books bought with proceeds from the Broadway Opening will be displayed for all to see beginning the middle of February.
