Cipriano, Brownley and Trigas. Also: Council Member Cas.ler, Mrs. Cole, Library Director, and Mr. Armour, Collections Coordinator President Falkenstein announced that the Board will adhere to parliamentary procedures of (1) recognition by hand, ..(2) move clockwise around the Board in discussions. ... The minutes of the July 16 and July 2-5, l'980 minutes were approved with the following corrections: change date of special CIP meeting from July 22 -to July 25 and change date of next meeting to read August 20. LIBRARY DIRECTOR''s REPORT . .. '•'"'..'. Cole discussed disintegration of library caretaking. Memos have been written to Parks and Recreation concerning the grounds around the building, the patio and the atrium, and to Utility /Maintenance' concerning1' the sweeping of the' parking lot and .changing"of lamps inside the building. .Parks responded within " "a day of "the memo and the grounds -diet. show^ some Improvement." There has-been ho response concerning---the-'regular, cleaning of. the parking lot or changing the lights which are burned out.'--;'- ,'•"• L -. Cole distributed a report on the Serra System; discussed her interview with a • representative-who is working on the-La _ Costa Master-Plan revision; and -'. . . announced that Gary Strong,-former Washington State' Deputy Library Director, •has been, appointed as the .new California State Librarian. Personnel: Brownley reported'.that as of September 2, Chris Holt will be transferred to head the Bookmobile and Outreach Program, from "her position of Library Assistant in the Children-'s Department. .--.The Children,'s--position is in "the process "of being filled; ""also" the library guard position. Youth: • Cipriano reported on. Dan'.Arnsan's idea .of Brown Bag Dinner Theatre for • parents and children. -Friday,1 September 19 will be the first such, program, with dinner at 6:.30 p.m. and a puppet show"at 7:30 p.m., (by reservation only). Ongoing methods of financing for the library - Falkenstein suggested that L'Heureux, Brownley and Trigas me'et as a. committee to- survey sources for a library foundation. The results should be broken down into five groups and at the next meeting each member will be assigned a group. Cipriano and Falkenstein will form a committee to survey public relations methods to use and resources to find.. This also, is to be broken down into five groups and to be divided. Brownley asked if bonds are not a possibility. Cole stated that they are. CPO has hired a grantsperson to provide information on available grants. b. Levante Park building - Falkenstein referred to the Board letter sent to Council. Cipriano commented that the position taken was in the best interest of the City, and the library. -V V CARLOAD L 1 ! Five year CIP - the Board received copies of the CIP request for the Central Library. Trigas questioned the operating cost. Cole" responded that we must keep in mind the size of the new facility, inflation, etc. Falkenstein reminded•members of" the modular, gradual construction. Brownley mentioned that under "Source of Funding", private dpnations were, not included. ." Report on progress 'of Nat.ionait Endowment for the Humanities -.Armour reported that a team of.resource, specialists had been, assembled.. . 1. American Indian Studies - Anthropology Department -.Palomar College 2. Spanish-American period - Professor Colston!, San. Diego/State University 3. Anglo-1880rs - Mar je; Ho ward-Jones. She 4s-'revising a :book on .the - "History of Carlsbad.:. . ' . ' . _. ..'••' 1. Museum of Man-, San, Diego -•- photo archivist - inventory of photos of early Carlsbad, to be used ih production of the.film. To date the script for the fiini has been written. •_ It is expected that ' ' shooting will be finished-in^October. The-film-is important in that it: 1.
