HomeMy WebLinkAbout1986-06-26; Library Board of Trustees; MinutesMINUTES Meeting of: Time of Meeting: Date of Meeting: Place of Meeting: LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES 3:00 p.m. June 26, 1986 Library Conference Room TRUSTEES CALL T& ORDER: President Schramm called the meeting to order at 3:04 p.m. ROLL CALL: Present - President Schramm, Trustees FalkensCein, Grosse and Trigas. Absent - Trustee Martin. Also Present: Clifford Lange, Library Director Geoff Armour, Assistant Library Director Barbara Otwell and Nancy Osberg, Friends of the Library Margaret Brownley, Serra Advisory Board Council Member Lewis Bee McWilliams, Genealogical Society APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes of the May 21, 1986, Meeting were approved as presented. COMMITTEE REPORTS: a. Building and Grounds Trustee Trigas reported the security system arrived today and the automatic doors will be installed in July. The handicapped parking space is still in process of being installed. c. Personnel Trustee Falkenstein reported Christina Pickavet will be the new head of Technical Services. Director Lange introduced Reinier Vanderschroeff, the new Administrative Assistant. d. Youth Trustee Grosse reported on Youth Activities, distributing copies of the Calendar. The summer reading program has started with 435 sign-ups at this time. The title of the program is "Read to Win". The Child Identification Program will start next week. Parents will bring their children to the Library and a video tape will be made. Joe Skymba will take a picture of the parent talking with their child to be placed on file with the tape. OLD BUSINESS: a. CLSI Computer System Re-evaluation Update Director Lange reported he is still working on this re-evaluation. NEW BUSINESS; a. A Strategic Plan for Carlsbad City Library Facilities John Cahill, Project Manager for this project, introduced Michael Feerer, of Michael Feerer and Associates; Dick Wate HBW Associates, Inc., and Rob Quigley, AIA Architects, who presented slides and narrated the proposed plan to meet the space needs for the Library. Copies of the report were distrbuted to all those present. The Meeting re-convened at 4:15 p.m., with four Members of the Board present. Library Board of Trustees approved the findings of the repo' Strategic Plan and Space Needs Study for Carlsbad City Library Facilities and unanimously endorsed its submittal to Council. LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Director Lange reported SB 2493 passed the Senate and is now in the Assembly. The Bill was amended, and 50 million dollars was added for Los Angeles. This could provide 75!? of the cost of a building project, including land acquisition. He stated Carlsbad needs to have a site and plans in the works for a Library building, and it would be wise to have a committee work on this. Library Board of Trustees recommended to City Council to consider appointing a Site Selection Committee for a Library in the South Carlsbad area. FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY; Barbara Otwell introduced Nancy Osberg, the new President of Friends of the Library. She read the roster of new officers for the coaming year. GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY: Bee McWllliams reported the Society is working on a fund- raiser at the present time. SERRA ADVISORY BOARD: Margaret Brownley reported she saw a continuing need for cooperative library services. She stated a new, updated brochure had been prepared. Mrs. Brownley stated she would bring copies of the brochure and the bookmarks that are designed to increase the understanding of how important the Serra System is to the Library. s, t, Schramm Falkenstein Grosse Trigas Schramm Falkenstein Grosse Trigas MINUTES LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES June 26, 1986 Page 3 TRUSTEES Library Board of Trustees voted to cancel the July Board Meeting. President Schramm provided refreshments for all those present. This was her last meeting as President of the Board of Trustees, as she has been appointed to the Planning Commission.
