July 23. 1954
It was necessary to hold an adjourned meeting on July 23rd, 1954, due
to the fact, that there was not a quorum present at the regular meeting on
July 22, 1954.
Present at the adjourned meeting were the following: Mrs. Felt, Chair-
man, Mr. Westree, Ben Acuna, Mrs. Christiansen, and Vesta Stuart. Minutes
of the meeting of June 24 were read and approved.
A motion was made by Mr. Westree, seconded by Mrs. Christiansen, that
the Chairman check with the City Council to see if they have ordered the
toilets placed on the beach. Motion carried.
There was a discussion of names to be recommended to the Council to
fill the vacancies of Vesta Stuart and Ben Acuna, whose terms have expired.
The following names were suggested: Eddie Gastelum, Mrs. E. Sutton, and Ves-
ta Stuart.
A motion was mede by Mr. Westree, seconded by Mrs. Christiansen, that
an immediate letter be sent to all the various womans' clubs and mens1 ser-
vice clubs, asking them what they would like to do to assist in the plans
and development of the City Park if and when the purchase is made. Motion
carried.
Mrs. Stuart called to the attention of the Commission, the deplorable
condition of trash surrounding the fruit stand on the corner of Lincoln St.
and Carlsbad Boulevard. This is a fire hazard and eye sore. Mrs. Felt said
she would talk to the Fire Dept. and ask them to have it cleaned up.
The Chairman reported on a conversation she had had with Mr. Ewald, in
which he reported that Mayor McClellan thought the beaches should be taken
from this Committee and given to the Harbor Committee. He also suggested
that we ask the City Council to press for a lease from the San Diego Gas &
Electric Company, for a swimming pool utilizing the heated water. A motion
was made by Mrs. Christiansen, seconded by Ben Acuna, to this affect. Mo-
tion carried. Mrs. Christiansen volunteered to write this letter as she said
she was very familiar with the Harbor plans.
Motion made and carried, to adjourn.
Respectfully submitted,
VESTA STUART, Secretary
