COMMISSIONERS
The Parks and Recreation Commission meeting was called to order
in the City Council Chambers at. 7;00 p.m. by acting Chairman
Raul Tarango.

APPROVAL OP MINUTES
Commissioner Boone stated she was late arriving at last meeting
instead absent.
Commissioner Dahlquist moved the minutes be approved as amended,,
C .missioner Donovan seconded the motion.

INTRODUCTION OF NEW STAFF MEMBERS
Director Bradstreet introduced Michael Little, Administrative
Assistant; and Douglas Duncanson? Park Superintendent.
OLD BUSINESS:
Cannon Lake Park Project
As requested by the Commission, an agenda bill was written for
Council consideration on June 5 to reinstate Cannon Lake Park in
the CIP for 1979-80.
Pine Field Lighting
Trenches h£ve been dug and conduit laid, service box is to arrive
by June 8. Pat Walters, city staff and some SDG§E personnel are
working together to install lights.
Commissioner Dahlquist requested a letter of appreciation be
sent to Pat Walters from Commission.
Status Swimming Pool Complex
f ncil approved changing the shape of the pool from a r''U" to
"i, '. The value engineering report will be considered at their
next meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
Chase Field Utilization and Concession Agreement
Currently a problem exist with the~~~~use 6T"liTfe concession stands
by Little League and Bobby Sox. Little League and Bobby Sox
made a private agreement sharing 50-50 the expenses of running
the concessions. Bobby Sox was to receive 401 of the profits.
However, Little League paid their officials from the concession
prior to Bobby Sox receiving their 40%. In addition, the city
has been reimbursing Little League for the cost of their offi-
cials. The land is now city property and there isn't any agree-
n t with Little League on the use of the concession.

Chase Field Utilization and Concession Agreement
Little League has provided Bobby Sox with a draft of an agreement
for the coming year. It provides Bobby Sox with 33 1/3 of the
profits and 40% of the expenses. Bobby Sox is willing to pay
! for the use of the concession but wants a more equitable agree-
ment .
Commissioner DeDiminicantanio feels if the city takes control of
the concession Little League should receive some type of compen-
sation because all the work on the concession has been contribute
by Little League.
Commissioner Tarango requested the question of control/ownership
be addressed.
Commissioner DeDiminicantion moved the city not be involved with
the operation of the concession and an ad hoc committee be formec
to meet with representatives of Little League and Bobby Sox to
work out an equitable solution.
C jnissioner Dahlquist seconded the motion.
DISCUSSION: The ad hoc committee is to consist of 2 Commission-
ers and a staff member.
AYES,
The ad hoc committee will be Commissioners DeDiminicantanio,
Wollrich and Dahlquist with one being an alternate. Staff will
schedule meeting.
On June 5, Council will discuss the availability of athletic
fields. The Encinitas Optomist Club wants to construct a ball
field on the Levante Park site. It has been discussed with the
superintendent of the Encinitas School District and is very " -
likely to be done. Another group will be clearing land at Mag-
nolia Elementary School for a possible multipurpose field. Sup-
erintendent Crawford suggested land at Buena Vista School be
utilized also.
Commissioner Tarango requested a field trip of all park lands
for Commissioners and staff. Field trip was set for Monday, Jun<
18 at 3:00 p.m. with the Commission meeting starting at 6:00 p.m
Parks and Recreation Month - June 9
C June 9, from 10:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Holiday Park all con-
tract instructors will demonstrate their classes or have a booth
illustrating their classes. There will be a disco contest in
the afternoon. Several Carlsbad businesses have contributed to
the printing of the brochure and others will have information
booths. Commissioners were asked to attend to present prizes.
Public Works Status Report
Included in Commissioners' packets, information item only,
Swimming Pool Fee
Staff requested a fee of $5 per person, per session be charged
for summer swimming lessons to provide a self sustaining prograii
C Tiissioner Kinghorn moved the $5 fee be charged.
Commissioner DeDiminicantanio seconded the motion.

DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Holiday Park Comfort Station is not opened due to difficulty
in receiving parts.
Bobby Sox is having a tournament from July 21 through July 26
at Chase Field.
The Public Works Department has been notified the Commission
wants the Hosp Grove Study included in the CIP for this year
or next year.
The modular unit for the Parks Division has not been received.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m. by acting Chairman Rual
Tarango.
