AIRCRAFT, CARS, OR SIMILAR DEVICES IN PARKS AND BEACHES - (ACTION)
Mick Calarco, Recreation Services Manager, made a presentation on this item. He
presented four possible alternatives for addressing changes to section 11.32.030 (31) of
the Carlsbad Municipal Code for the use of radio or remote controlled aircraft, cars, or
similar devices in parks and the beach area west of Carlsbad Boulevard, between Palomar
Airport Road and Solamar Drive.
Option 4 was approved by the Commissioners, stated as follows:
Amend section 11.32.030 (31) of the Carlsbad Municipal Code as follows, "No
person shall operate any radio controlled vehicle on any artificial turf field within any
park. Recreational use of electric radio controlled mode airplanes will be permitted
on park baseball fields only if a scheduled league game or practice is not occurring;
provided, however, they meet the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) definition
of a "Park Flyer Model:" No person shall operate any radio controlled model
airplanes within the park unless they are a member of the AMA Park Flyers
Program and they obey the AMA National Safety Code."

the noise of remote control airplanes with actual airplanes.

Carlsbad Boulevard, between Palomar Airport Road and Solamar Drive.

airplanes. He suggested having a co-existing plan in place for everyone to enjoy the
parks.
