Present besides Chairman Bond were Commissioners, Sutton, Stringer,
Gronseth, Baumgartner, Building Snspector Ewald, Public Works DI-
rector Barter, Absent, Corns. Helton and Cockrill,
Comn, Gronseth moved that readlng of the minutes of the meet-
ing of August 10th be dispensed with. Seconded by Corn, Sutton.
All ayes , motion carried., ,-
Secretary Stringer read the application of Alonzo V, Romero
for special use permit to add to commercial laundry facilities at
534 Elm Avenue, in a C-1 zone. Comm. Stringer moved that a hearing be
set on the application of Alonzo Romero for special use permit, on
September lllth, at 7:3O pa m, Seconded by Comm, Gronseth, All
ayes, notion carried,
The application of Jeannette Lull for rezonlng from E-2 to
R-1A of property at Valley md Ma#nolia, was reviewed, Mr. and
Mrs. Lull were present and after discussion of the matter, it was
suggested by the Commission that the Lulls conteat neighboring
property owners and ascertain their feeling toward rezoning of a
larger area, extendling to Highland Avenue, to R-LA, which they
agreed to do,
Secretary Stringer read Notice of Public Hearing on the ap-
plication of John 0, Hier and at the initiation of the Planning
Commission, to rezone from E-2 to R-lA property described as Lots
1, 2, and 3, and a portion of Lot 4, Cedar Hills Addition. No
written protests were received, but Mr. and 'Hrs, J, T, Boyd ap-
geared as neighboring property owners, stating that they wished clarifie r, cation of the street matter about which there was considerable
controversy at the previous hearing on the matter of a variance
requested by Mr. Hier. Ivlr. Hier was not present, and Comm.
Sutton moved that the matter be tabled to September 14th at 8 p. m,
and that Mr. Hier be so notified. Seconded by Comm. Gronseth,
All ayes, motion carried.
Secretary Stringer read Notice of Hear- on the application
of George and Adaline Pmdhomme at a1 for rezoning from R-1 to B-2
of property at 1165 Elm Avenue and 1166 Elm Avenue. The map was
consulted and the decision made to re-advertise the hear-, and
to include a larger area along both sides of Elm Avenue on which
there existed many violations, so that the area no longer conformed
to R-1 zoning standards. Cmn, Sutton moved that a hearing be
set at 8:30 on September 14th to consider reclassification of
Parcel 5 of Tract 117, &d Parcels 1, 2, 3, and 4 of Tract 115 ,
Carlsbad hnds, on the application of George and Adaline Pmdhomme
and at the initiation of the Carlsbad Planning Commission,
Seconded by Corn. Baumgartner. All ayes, motion carried.
PITS. Enid Lewis, HT6. Martha Kuszinski and Hrs. Estelle
&row were present but were advised that no word had been received
from Mr. Thacher on the matter in which they were tntemsted, and
that they would be notified in advance of any further Planning
Commission consideration of the matter.
The matter of the planning study to be undertaken by a class
at San Diego State College, taught by Professor Taylor, was re-
viewed an8 discussed, and it was decid-ed that inasmuch as t% time
for the re-opening of school was drawing near, contact should be
made with Professor Taylor to perfect arrangements for the study,
Corn, Sutton volunteered to contact Professor Taylor and find out
whether he could come up to Carlsbad on Monday, August 3lst, or
at another time convenient to him, and then advise Mrs. Vermilyea
of the arrangements so that she could notify other members of the
Commission.
Max &ala reported that Mrs. Prltschel had rnade a strenuous
complaint against various violations, zoning and otherwise, on
adjacent property ?at 130 Acacia Street, owned by a HPS. Edna
Cooper of Long Beach. Mr. Esvald stated that her principal com-
plaint was the accumulation of rubbish, etc., with constitutes a
fire hazard and endangers. the property of neighbors, After dis-
cussion, it was decided that the oiiLg action which could be taken
by the City is to watch the situation and when the present renters
move out, to notify the owner that the property must be cleaned up
before it mag be rented again.
Mr. Bernhart of Los Angeles was present and asked about the

possibilities of making a public street of a road leading from
Basswood up to his property at tkE east end of Forest Avenue,
which road has been In public use for at least thirty years. The
tentative master street plan was consulted, but the road was not
projected thereon. It was suggested that Mr. Bmhart contact Bruce
Smith to find out the status of this road, In view of its long
public use.
The seoretary was asked to call Joe Cockrill and remind him
that it is his turn to attend the City Council meeting on Tuesday,
September 1st.
There being no further busbess to come before the Commis-
sion, Corn. Gronseth moved for adjournment, seoonded by Corn.
Stringer. All ayes, meeting adjourned at 8~55 p. m.
