Present besides the chairman were Commissioners Baumgartner, Smith,
Garcia, Gronseth, Stringer, Ledgerwood, and Public Works Director h-
Hay 10th be dispensed with, and that the secretary be asked to brief
any matters that should be given attention from the last meeting, Second-
ed by Comm. Gronseth, All ayes, motion aarrled, Secretary Baumgartner
gave a brief summary of the minutes of May 10th. -
Comm, Smith reported that the matter of requiring sgeoial use per-
mits from Stanley & Associates for advertisi;l3g signs on the bus stop
benches was discussed in the City Council meeting of Hay 18th, and that 'I
it was finally referred back to the City Clerk and City Attorney to make
further contact with Mr. Stanley, with Cmn. Belton also assimed to work
with them, Comm. Smith reported that Mr. Simmons, local sign painter,
had stated that if Mr. Stanley got hostile and removed the benches, he
would replaae them himself .
Corn, Gronseth asked about the status of an occupied trailer at
Boosevelt & Magnolia. Mr. Anthony explained that a permit for oocupanoy
may be granted for sixty days during construction of a home on the prem-
ises, subject to renewal if buildlng is in progress, and stated that he
would make an early cheok on the present instaaoe.
Avenue, who made application for variavlce to allow reduction of front
yard setback to permit construction of a business building at the ,proper-
ty line on property described as the northwest corner of Lot 21, Seaside
Lands. Mr. Fennel explained that the building is to be used for storage
of soiled laundry, which is picked up twice weeklyg that a reasonable
present quarters of the laundry agenay.. The matter was discussed at great
length, some members feeling strongly that any future plan to widen State
Street would be definitely jeopardized by allmlng construction of build-
lngs to the property line; while others felt that best use of commercial

property required that building be allowed to the property line, The sug-
gestion was made that possibly a restriction could be put into the Ordin-
anoe providing that in event the street is to be widened, buildings must
be moved at the owners* risk and expense, After considerable discussion,
it was decided to hold an informal meeting on June 7th, at whioh this
question md others would be taken up. Comm. Stringer moved that a hearing
be set on the application of John Hier for front yard varianoe to permit
construction of a buslness building on the Northwest comer of Lot 21,
Seaside Lands, at 7:3O P, M,, on June 14th. Seconded by Corn, Smith,
All ayes, motion oarried.
Secretary Bawngartner read Notice of Public Hearing on the applica-
tion of the City of Carlsbad for special use permit to allow erection of
a police and fire station on property described as 8 portion of Tract 117,
Carlsbad Leads, located on Pi0 Pic0 Drive between Elm Avenue and Laguna
Drive. There were no oral or written protests, Comm, Gronseth moved
that the Planning Commission reoommend to the City Courmoil that said
aecial use permit be granted the City of Carlsbad, Seconded by Cm'.
Baumgartner, All ayes, motion oarried,
Secretary Baumgartner read the applioation of Anderson & Robinson
Plumbing Company for special use permit to allow an advertising sim on
the bus stop bench at the northeast comer of Grad Avenue and Carlsbad
of Anderson & Robinson Plumbing Company for special use permit to allow
an advertising sign on a bench on City property, at 8t00 Ego M. on June
14th, and that the City Attorney be asked to/be present, jA persm, or either
give a written ruling on whether It is within the provinoe of the Planning
garding acquisition of funds for beach purposes, requesting a map, advis-
ing that in order to acquire any funds it is neoessary to have a County-
wide plan. Referred to the Parks, Recreation Beaoh and Tree Commission.
Secretary Ba-artner read a letter from the Sm Diego County Plan-
ning Congress regardlslg a spriag meeting at the Hotel del Coronado on
June bth, Friday evenluzg, at 6:30 P. H., reservations to be in by May

Secretary Bawngartner read a petition for reclassification from
Zone R-3 to Zone (2-1, requested by Alton A, Gladden, 335 Oak Avenue,
of property described as a portion of Tract 99, looated 011 the south side
of Oak Avenue between LincoU Street and the AT&SF railroad right-of-way,
at 335 Oak Avenue. Corn. Smith moved that a hearing be set on the appli-
cation of Altan A. Gladden for reclassifioation, on June 14th at 9:OO
Po M. Seconded by Corn, Bamgartner. All ayes, motion oarried.
Commissioner Stringer was appointed as Planning Commission repre-
sentative at the next Counoil meeting,
There being no further business to come before the Commission, the
meeting was declared adjourned at 8:45 Po PI,
