Dear :,:embers of the '.;arlsba d ?lannin{; Cn:nlll.i.ssion,
As a long time citizen of Ca rls l)ad , I would like to speak to the
subject of preserving the n.i.ral quai l ~y of old Skyli.ne and the contiguous
neighborhood. 'li e believe its country-like atmosphere can and should
be retained even thoug h nearby underdeveloped areas are in the midst
of change.
At the present time, because the res idential traffic a llows it ,
many citizens stroll with their children and oets south toward the water
tower and lovely peaceful vie•,. of the-hills and l <iil, oon area. Joggers
are out in the mornings and early evening s , bicyclers and young people
play catch and skateboard as well. There are wild rabbi t s , an owl who
made his home in our palm tree , hwnrnLngbirds and other creatures of
nature who have made the Skyline area tneir home base . There are
natural shrubs and domestic plants, g a r dens and a quiet woodsy area
to gather one 's thoughts and smell t he scent of pine or jasmine. The
peopie and a.nimtls feel a t home on Skyline Road . Th e re's a feeling of
old comfort, a rurtlness countrj charm and beauty in the area.
To cuJ. de sac Skyline a t the water to•.,er a s oppos ed to havin& a
thorough-fare would achieve this end. Even the Pannonia Development
Team had i.n mind to keep Skyline as is . However an opposite picture
will certainly emerge if Skyline is cut through-an increase of traffic
to approximately J20 car trips per day over an old street where the
paving is 24 feet wide in some places.
As I live on the southwest corner of Tamarack and Skyline , my
family h as witnessed a drastic change in the traffic count on ?amarack
since it was open to ~ Galllino Retl. i'he noise level has also risen
dramatictlly. We seldom see the hwnrningbi rds anymore and the old
owl has taken up residence farther down Skyline to the South. Please
help us to preserve the neighborhood so that it will stay.
The Skyline Road area is an old established neighborhood -in th~
heart of old Carl sbad. The residents here do not want Skyline to
become anaccess road to Pannonia -especitlly when there is a safety
access route viz. Telescope Road in ~he new Telescope Point homes.
Thls road partliels Skyline for some way and is being planned with
curbs and sidewtlks and a pavement width of 40 feet.
Please consider our petition and the sincerety with which we
offer it. Please help us to save old Skyline so that others, as
well as local residents will ltnow the treasure of the old which
complements the new. Thank you so much for your kind attention.
Sincer ely,
