Fundraising
Chairman Van asked the Commissioners for each one's "wish
list".
Commissioner Ritchie stated she would like some pianos for
the new center. Sue Spickard said the piano in the dining
room belongs to the Carlsbad Seniors Association and they
intend to move that to the new center; the organ also
belongs to them and will go to the new center.
Commissioner Ritchie felt the new piano should be in the
auditorium and the Association piano in the dining room.
Comnissioner Ritchie continued, listing a VCR and large-
screen TV for the lounge; mirrors in the dance room (if they
are not in the construction allowance); and punch bowls, tea
set, etc. for the dining room.
Commissioner Maggio inquired that if someone donated an
organ, where would it go, and Comnission discusslon
determined it would probably be more secure in the dining room.
Chairman Van restated his first priority for a "wish list"
He also mentioned pool tables and as a bus for the center.
equipment for the crafts room.
Sue Spickard will present a list for prioritizing to the

giving the item.
Senior Center Update
Sue Spickard reported the Arts Committee had met and
discussed the time schedule for inviting the artists to
submit work for the committee to select the finalists.
The RFP has gone out and $30,000 has been put aside for
the art project. Three finalists will be selected and
they will be paid $1,000 each for supplying a maquette.
This will leave $27,000 for the art piece itself.
The area for the art piece will be in the gallery area
and the artists will not be told what to submit, other
than it is a jolnt schoollsenior center.
Sue Spickard stated the landscaping had been discussed at
the last Commission meeting and those concerns had been
shared with the landscape architect and will be addressed.
She added the interior designer had been told to focus on
the wall and floor coverings and the furniture will be
worked on later.
Stagecoach Park Activities
Sue Spickard reported efforts had been made to attract
seniors in south Carlsbad into the senior programs. A
survey was placed at Stagecoach Park and there were no
responses. She said they will try again, and were
thinking about a barbecue to be held at Stagecoach Park.
She asked the Conmission whether they would like to hold
a meeting there and perhaps have an open house.
Commissioner Ritchie suggested holding exercise classes
at Stagecoach, as the classes here at the center are very
crowded. Several suggestions were made about different
classes to be held at Stagecoach, and Ms. Spickard
reminded the Comnissioners that some of those programs
are through Mira Costa. Ms. Spickard will schedule a Conmission meeting at Stagecoach Park, with coffee and
cookies to be served following the meeting.
United Way Donation
Sue Spickard stated this is the second year Mr. Roger
Burke has made a donation through the United Way for the
Carlsbad seniors. Last year this donation was put into
the home-delivered meals program. She asked the
Comnissioners to include what they want the money to be
earmarked for when the motion to accept is made.
Senior Citizen Commission accepted the United Way donation of $81.00 from Mr. Roger Burke and designated
this money for equipment for the new senior center.
