Vice Chairman Whittaker and Commissioner Chmiel will serve on the committee to plan the volunteer celebration. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Suaaestion Committee Commissioner Zink gave the report, with the following suggestions being presented: Suggestion: Why aren’t all the sewers in the dining room wearing gloves? Answer: It is not a Health Department regulation that servers must wear gloves. They are trained in sanitary food handling and are instructed to wash their hands before serving. This is a good idea, but unfortunately gloves make it difficult to handle soup bowls, etc., safely. Suggestion: Kleenex-type dispensers in the rest rooms. Answer: The committee does not believe that Kleenex dispensers are necessary; especially in light of budget constraints. Suggestion: The availability of the newsletter should be announced periodically. Answer: The committee will request that it be announced in the dining room at various times throughout the year. A note of thanks was received from Afton Jandro for having C. C. Sanders entertaining in the dining room. ITEMS FOR THE NEXT AGENDA: Presentation by the Braille Institute on a request to meet at the Center regularly Fundraising brochure ADJOURNMENT: By proper motion, the Regular Meeting of August 4, 1994, was adjourned at 1:35 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Minutes Clerk July 21, 1994 TO: SENIOR COMMISSION FROM: Senior Center Coordinator COORDINATORS REPORT NUTRITION We have received half of the order for the new permanent dinnerware to be utilized for the lunch program. We have experimented with those we have and are concerned about the drying time and possible staining. We were assured by the sales rep that drying time would be between 3-5 minutes and they would not stain. We will stay on top of the situation and work with Sysco. Our count is down in the lunch program. Again we attribute this to summer vacations. In an effort to reduce the losses due to "no shows" we are changing the check in time. Persons with lunch reservations must now check in by 11:45 am. If they have not done so by that time, their reservation will be given to a person who is waiting in the hall. We are in desperate need of Home Meals Drivers. In addition to our regular advertising efforts, a notice will be placed in next month's water billing notifying every resident of our need for volunteers. SPECIAL EVENTS The 6th Annual Ice Cream Social held on July 17 in McGee Park was an overwhelming success! A record-setting estimated crowd of over 500 attended this delightful afternoon in the park event. Those who attended came early and spent the entire day. Music was generously provided by the Golden Tones, and sing-a-longs were led by Abe Katell. Thrifty Drugs donated 32 gallons of chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Thanks to the talents, hard work and know how of manv volunteers, this years social is being classified as "the best ever." The calligraphy classes are presently displaying their works in the Art room. Everyone is encouraged to stop in and view the lovely works completed by the students. The Senior Safari trip scheduled for July 21 to Knotts Berry Farm did not as in years past fill to capacity. Now that we enjoy the flexibility of two passenger vehicles we were able to provide the trip by utilizing the mini bus.
