Senior Owned Affordable Housing Facilities.
You may recall that last year we recommended that council members visit
two Senior communities in the Rancho Bernardo area, namely "Oaks
North" and "Seven Oaks", We believe that those Council members who
attended were quite impressed with the professional way in which these
areas were developed. It would seem that a similar development to that of
"Oaks North" would be another jewel in the Carlsbad Crown.
Carlsbad's Population of approximately 80^000 is made up of 23%
Seniors, or roughly 18,400 people aged 59 and above. It would seem then
that a beautiful comraunity such as " Oaks North" would be a tremendous
asset to our great City.
The friendly atmosphere and multiplicity of activities offered in such a
community is not matched by any of the Senior Care iacilities to date.
Also the cost of entry for most seniors prohibits this. It is with this in
mind that we would urge you to consider planning for a new approach to
Senior Housing such as suggested here.
The Articles .attached may be of interest to you as they address the needs
of many Seniors and a possible solution.

* The county figures are control totals, set by the Department of
Finance and derived from allocating the state-wide population estimate
down to the individual counties. In turn, the county totals are allocated
to the individual jurisdictions. Due to the allocation methodology, the
sum of the individual jurisdictions often varies slightly from the county
control total.
