CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Picker called the Regular Meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
ACTION: On motion by Vice Chairperson O'Connell, the Minutes of
the Regular Meeting held on December 7, 2004 were
approved.

Group.
COMMITTEE/COUNCIL REPORTS
Lori Swenck, Recreation Area Manager advised the Commission of the
forthcoming Volunteer Recognition Dinner to be held at the Olympic Resort in
Carlsbad. The date is set for Friday, February 25, 2005.
Swenck said a bid for completion of the patio should arrive the first week in
January.
Tyler Court Senior Housing, will be tented for termites for 3 days next week. The
Senior Center transportation crew will pickup at the various hotels in Carlsbad
where tenants will be staying.
A bus tour to take Commissioners to see the new developments i.e., Parks, Golf
Course, and new roads throughout the city is being planned for March if possible.

CONSENT CALENDAR
The consent calendar was unanimously approved (3-0).
1. AB #1204-1 SUMMARY REPORT - The Commission approved the Summary
Report of the December 7, Senior Commission meeting.
DEPARTMENT REPORTS
Nutrition Coordinator, Ed Diamond and Home Meal Coordinator, Jack Risley, gave an
update on the Congregate and Home Meal programs.
Activities Coordinator, Chuck Coleman informed the Commission of new classes the
Senior Center will be offering online. Some classes will be held in the evening as well
as on Saturday afternoons to open the doors to Seniors that are still working full time
and aren't able to attend day classes.
Recreation Area Manager, Lori Swenck, explained in further detail about online
registration and how the Senior Center will be implementing the new sign up procedure.
North County Health Services will be giving flu shots at the Senior Center on December
8, 2004 from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
Swenck informed Commission about the "CityStuff volunteer program to teach third-
grade students about the City of Carlsbad. The program is looking for volunteers to
participate.

Receive donation and recommend acceptance by City Council.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
For the 18tn consecutive year, KoKo Beach restaurant owners, Jeff King and Martin Kouma held
their annual KoKo Beach Golf Tournament on October 30, 2004. All of the proceeds graciously
benefit the Carlsbad Senior Center. Local citizens, seniors, and regular KoKo Beach customers
participated. This year there were 60 golfers and $805.00 was raised to support the Senior
Center.
In addition, KoKo Beach offers $5.00 discount coupons for sale throughout the month of October.
All proceeds from this activity are also given to the Senior Center. This year's sales totaled
$1,115.00.
Total donations received for this event: $1,920.00. The donations have been deposited in the
Senior Center Trust account #14345675651 and will benefit Senior Center programs.

The Friday Bridge Group, led by Volunteer Ron Wright, has been participating at the Carlsbad
Senior Center for many years. Each holiday season the bridge players graciously contribute a
portion of their proceeds to the Center. This year a $400.00 donation has been submitted.
The donation has been deposited into the Senior Center Trust account #14345675651 and will
benefit Senior Center activities and programs.

DONATIONS TO SENIOR CENTER TRUST
The Senior Center has received a donation of $400.00 from the Friday Bridge
Group led by volunteer Ron Wright and has been deposited into the Senior
Center Trust Account.
The donation totaling $400.00 was presented to and received by the Senior
Commission. In accordance with Carlsbad Municipal Code 2.08.100, "delegation
of authority to accept donations," the donation is being forwarded to you for your
acceptance. A thank you letter has been sent by the Senior Center.

Manager' Report
Happy New Year!!!
• Volunteer Recognition Dinner is February 25. Invitations will go out in 3-4
weeks.
• Tyler Court (Sr. Housing) will be tented for termites for 3 days next week. Our
transportation crew will pick up at hotels in Carlsbad where tenants will be
staying. Reservations will need to be arranged as usual. 602-4650
• A bid for completion of the Patio should arrive this week from Bonsall
Construction. Parks Supervisors will review it for possible approval.
• Will try arranging a Bus Tour of new development throughout the city. (i.e.:
Parks, Golf Course, new roads, etc.) in March in lieu of the monthly Commission
meeting. Staff from Park Planning will accompany us for narration.
HELP IS ON ITS WAY
To ease some of your stress when Tyler Court
gets termited next week, the Carlsbad Senior
Center will provide van transportation for lunch at
the Center on Monday 1-10-05, Tuesday 1-11-05,
and Wednesday 1-12-05. The van will pick you up
at your motel (Carlsbad only) and take you back
to the motel after lunch. Suggested donation for
this service is 50 cents per mile.
On Monday the lunch entree is chicken picatta, on
Tuesday it is pot roast, and on Wednesday it is
pork Normandy. Reservations are required. The
suggested donation is $2.50 per meal.
If you are disabled and cannot take advantage of
van transport, the Center will deliver lunch to you
at your motel. For this special service, $3.75 is
the suggested donation.
You must call by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, 1-5-05, to
reserve these services. The Center telephone
number is 602-4650. Be prepared to tell the
reservation desk the service desired (lunch,
lunch and transportation, or lunch delivered), the
days you wish the service, the name and location
of your motel, the motel telephone number, and
your room number.
