CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson O'Connell called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
ACTION: On motion by Vice Chairperson Nelson, the Minutes of the Regular Meeting
held on May 4, 2006 were approved.

PRESENTATIONS
Gail Lynn, Area Regional Manager introduced Craddock Stropes, the new Recreation Community
Coordinator. Some of the projects she is currently involved in are the Health Expo, Triathlon, and
Senior Center Newsletter.

Addressed Commission regarding senior Softball fields. Currently senior softball teams play at
Calavera Hills Park and fees are $5.00 per game. Senior softball teams also play in Vista and San
Marcos. San Marcos increased fees to $16.00 per game. Cress claimed that it is too expensive
for the seniors to pay and he is requesting support from Senior Commission to have access to play
senior softball at another ball field in Carlsbad.

CONSENT CALENDAR
1. AB #0706-1 SUMMARY REPORT
By a 5-0 vote Commission received, accepted and approved the Summary Report of the May
4, 2006 Senior Commission meeting.
2. AB #07006-2 RECEIPT OF DONATION - (ACTION)
Received donations of $900.00 of in-kind product and services to support Senior Center
programs.
DEPARTMENT REPORTS
None.
COMMISSIONER/STAFF REPORTS
Vice Chairperson Nelson attending the Full Access & Coordinated Transportation FACT steering
committee meeting on June 27th and updated the commission on the proceedings. The next
meeting will be July 10, 2006 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Lynn invited the Commission to attend the Health Expo on July 8, 2006 at the Senior Center. Sixty
vendors will be participating in the event. Triathlon packet pick-up at the Senior Center will be held
the same day as the Health Expo. Lynn also invited the Commission to attend the Ice Cream
Social and Hot Rod Show on July 30, 2006 held at Pine Park.
Carlsbad Senior Center participated in a Health Assessment sponsored through California Parks
and Recreation Services (CPRS) and the City of Santa Clara. Lynn reported that Carlsbad Senior
Center received over 90% quality rating in the areas of senior health, physical activities and mental
activities. We received a 50% quality rating in the area of diet due to the lack of nutritional
counseling. The Center is actively looking to find a volunteer nutritionist.

Battery disposal bin for seniors at the Senior Center.
