CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Nelson called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, the Minutes of the Regular Meeting
held on October 4, 2007 were approved.

CONSENT CALENDAR
The consent calendar was unanimously approved (5-0).
1. AB #1107-1 SUMMARY REPORT - (ACTION)
To accept, approve and file the November 1, 2007 Senior Commission Meeting Summary Report.
2. AB #1107-2 ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION - MR. AND MRS. ED ALLARD (ACTION)
To accept a donation from Mr. & Mrs. Ed Allard in memory of William Kempton.
3. AB #1107-3 COMMISSION APPOINTMENT TO TRI-CITY MEDICAL CENTER ADVISORY
GROUP - (ACTION)
The Commission appointed Commissioner Surridge as a representative to the Tri-City Medical
Center Advisory Group.
4. AB# 1101-4 OPTIONS FOR SENIOR AMENITIES WITHIN PARKS - (DISCUSSION)
Commission discussed park amenity options for seniors in both future and existing City parks to
be brought forward to the Joint Parks and Recreation Commission/Senior Commission meeting.
The discussion will continue when the Commission has an opportunity to meet with a Park
Development Manager or designee who will update the Commission on the Park Development
Plan.
DEPARTMENT REPORTS
None
COMMISSION/STAFF REPORT
1 . Chairperson Nelson shared some thoughts with respect to senior amenities at existing and future
parks. The Commission decided to continue discussion after they meet with a Park Planner who
will update them on the disposition of parks.
2. Commissioner Joan Surridge attended the first meeting of the Tri-City Community Advisory
Group. Tri-City Medical Center plans to go back to voters to seek their support in rebuilding
the medical center. They are asking selected members of the community to participate in a
Community Advisory Group (CAG) who will review the planning consultant's recommendations.
3. Gail Lynn updated the Commission on the Senior Center recreation activities and programs.
Among the highlights for October 29th were a Senior Safari trip to the Reagan Library and to the
Old World Oktoberfest in Huntington Beach. The Julian trip on October 29th was cancelled due to
poor air quality from the fire.
Four seminars were held in October on "Balance and Fall Prevention," "2008 Medicare Part D
Changes," Eldercare, "A Place for Mom," and the "Importance of Good Hearing." Oil paintings by
Jack Vogelsang were on display in the corridor gallery.
4. Jack Risley gave a preliminary count of 2,258 meals served in the dining room averaging 103
meals per day for the month of October.
Risley commented what a great job Teresa Dunn is doing as the Center's Activities Coordinator.
For the month of October there were several theme lunches such as; Native American Day, Teddy
Bear Tea Party, Oktoberfest and a Halloween Party. Seniors and staff dressed up for the
occasion.
KoKo Beach drawing was held in the dining room. People who purchased tickets for the yearly
Senior Center fundraiser had a chance to win door prizes with the tickets they purchased.
