CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Nelson called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, the Minutes of the Regular Meeting
held on November 1, 2007 were amended to reflect Commissioner Peggy
Savary was unanimously elected by the Commission to serve as a
representative to the Carlsbad Community Block Grant/Home Advisory
Committee. The Minutes were amended and approved.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, the Agenda for December 6, 2007
was approved.

CONSENT CALENDAR
The consent calendar was unanimously approved (5-0).
1. AB #1207-1 SUMMARY REPORT - (ACTION)
Accepted and approved and filed the November 1, 2007 Senior Commission Meeting Summary
Report.
2. AB #1207-2 ACCEPTANCE OF DONATION - 21st ANNUAL KOKO BEACH RESTAURANT
FUNDRAISER - (ACTION)
Accepted and approved donation of $1405.00 from the KoKo Beach Restaurant.
3. AB#1207-3 COMMISSION APPOINTMENT TO TRI-CITY MEDICAL CENTER ADVISORY
GROUP - (ACTION)
Commissioner Surridge was appointed as a representative to the Tri-City Medical Center Advisory
Group.
4. AB #1206-4 PARK DEVELOPMENT PLAN UPDATE - (INFO)
Park Development Manager, Mark Steyaert updated the Commission on current and future Park
Development. Park projects completed are: Pine Avenue Park, Hidden Canyon Park, Aviara Park
Phase I and the Golf Course. Future park projects will be: Pine Park Phase II, NE Quadrant Park,
Veteran's Memorial Park, Business Park Recreation Facility, Poinsettia Park Phase II, Carrillo
Ranch Phase III and Aviara Phase II.
Chairperson Nelson gave the commissioners a handout with some of his suggestions how to
incorporate intergeneration activities and amenities for seniors.
COMMISSION/STAFF REPORT
1. Commissioner Surridge reported on the last meeting she attended with the Tri-City Medical Center
Advisory Group. Surridge reported the consulting firm that was hired brought forward three
different plans. All proposals are under consideration at this time. Handouts were given to the
Commissioners to have them read in more detail what the differences are between the three
plans.
2. Gail Lynn updated the Commission on Senior Center recreation activities and programs. Among
the events for November was the Senior Safari trip to Del Mar "Holiday of Lights" which ended
with dinner at the Brigantine Seafood Restaurant. In addition, a "Meet the Artist" Reception was
held for artist photographer L.J. Sullivan at the lobby gallery. People listened to a jazz guitarist
while sipping sparkling apple cider and enjoying cheese and crackers. Four seminars were held:
(1) Q & A Regarding Health Insurance; (2) What to Look for When Selecting Home Care Services;
(3) Fall Prevention and Talking with Older Drivers; and (4) 2008 Medicare Updates.
Lynn updated the Commission on the expansion side of the Senior Center. Painting and
refurbishing is expected to be completed by the end of December. Plans are underway for an
Open House.
3. 2,065 lunches were served in the dining room with an average of 108 people per day being served
for the month of November. Some of the entrees served were Roast Turkey with Gravy, Pot
Roast and Chicken Fajitas. The seniors' "Western Day" lunch was a Texas BBQ Beef Brisket and
featured entertainment by "Cowboy Jack".
The Annual Bake Sale was sold out as most baked items were home-made, contributing to its
success.
ADJOURNMENT
By proper motion the Regular Meeting of December 6, 2007 was adjourned to the Senior Center
for the Recreation Commissioners Party at 3:55 p.m.
