MEETING OF: Senior Commission
DATE OF MEETING: August 6, 2009
TIME OF MEETING: 3:00 p.m.
PLACE OF MEETING: Senior Center
CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Nelson called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL was taken by the secretary as follows:
Present: Nelson, Savary and Surridge
Absent: Hopkins and O'Connell
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Savary led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On motion by Commissioner Surridge, the Minutes of the
previous meeting were unanimously approved.
Minutes of the Regular Meeting held June 4, 2009.
CONSENT CALENDAR:
1. AGENDA ITEM 0809-1 Summary Report of June 4. 2009
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Surridge, Commission
unanimously accepted the June 4, 2009 Summary Report.
AYES: Nelson, Savary and Surridge
NOES: None
ABSENT: Hopkins and O'Connell
PRESENTATION:
2. AGENDA ITEM 0809-2 Senior Shield Program Presentation
Mr. McGrady is a representative for Senior Shield, a division of Elder Law &
Advocacy. Senior Shield is designed to provide current and useful information
to help fight scams and fraud. McGrady passed out literature that included a
Scam Hotline telephone number and a website.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Recreation Area Manager, Gail Lynn reported on current programs and on facility equipment
improvements. Lynn talked about the Parks and Recreations Department reorganization and
the 09/10 budget. Valerie Fischer has been selected as the new Activities Coordinator for the
Senior Center.

Recreation Supervisor, Jack Risley updated the Commission on the participation and serving
numbers for the Congregate and Home Meals for June and July.
In case of an emergency, Risley gave out food emergency kits for the nutrition program
participants. The kits have enough food for seven days.

By proper motion, the Regular Meeting of August 6, 2009 was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
