MEETING OF: Senior Commission
DATE OF MEETING: November 5, 2009

CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Nelson called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL was taken by the secretary as follows:
Present: Nelson, Savary and Surridge
Absent: Hopkins and O'Connell
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On motion by Commissioner Surridge, the Minutes of the
previous meeting were unanimously approved.
Minutes of the Regular Meeting held September 3, 2009.
CONSENT CALENDAR:
1. AGENDA ITEM 1109-1 SUMMARY REPORT OF SEPTEMBER 3. 2009
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Savary, Commission
unanimously accepted the September 3, 2009 Summary Report.
AYES: Nelson, Savary and Surridge
NOES: None
ABSENT: Hopkins and O'Connell
DEPARTMENT REPORTS:
2. AGENDA ITEM 1109-2 SENIOR CENTER REPORT
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Surridge, Commission
unanimously accepted the September 3, 2009 Senior Center Report.
AYES: Nelson, Savary and Surridge
NOES: None
ABSENT: Hopkins and O'Connell
COMMISSIONER/STAFF REPORTS
Gail Lynn, Recreation Area Manager reported that Koko Beach Fundraiser raised $1,265.00
for the Senior Center.
The Senior Center has received a new cargo van. This will help shuttle seniors to doctor's
appointments, grocery shopping and pick up food from the caterers.

The Commission received an update on the ongoing activities and upcoming events. The
Parks and Recreation Commission will host this year's holiday social celebration at Leo
Carrillo Ranch on December 4, 2009.
The Carlsbad Senior Center is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Center on
December 7th. A luncheon and entertainment will be held in the dining room to
commemorate the day.
Recreation Supervisor, Jack Risley reported in October 103 Congregate meals were served on
a daily average based on 23 serving days. A daily average of 30 Home Meals were delivered.
A special meal will be served to Congregate and Home Meal recipients for Thanksgiving.
Jack Risley gave special mentioned to the Nutrition Council who he feels has made a
difference in helping with positive changes. Currently the Nutrition Council is reviewing the
Nutrition bylaws that have not been changed since 1998. Also Valerie Fisher, Activities
Coordinator, continues to contribute to the quality of the Senior Center.
Chairperson, Jack Nelson and the Senior Commissioner's, wanted to acknowledge and thank
Sue Spickard, Recreation Services Manager for conducting the October Senior Commission
Meeting and also staff, Jack Risley and Kris Westland for their support in Gail's absence.
