MEETING OF: Senior Commission
DATE OF MEETING: January 7, 2010
TIME OF MEETING: 3:00 p.m.

CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Nelson called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL was taken by the secretary as follows:
Present: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge
Absent: None
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner O'Connell led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, the Minutes of the
previous meeting were unanimously approved.
Minutes of the Regular Meeting held December 3, 2009.
CONSENT CALENDAR:
1. AGENDA ITEM 0110-1 SUMMARY REPORT OF DECEMBER 3. 2009
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, Commission
unanimously accepted the December 3, 2009 Summary Report.
AYES: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge
NOES: None
DEPARTMENT REPORTS:
2. AGENDA ITEM 0110-2 SENIOR CENTER REPORT
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, Commission
unanimously accepted the December 3, 2009 Senior Center Report.
AYES: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge
NOES: None
3. AGENDA ITEM 0110-3 VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION DINNER
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner Surridge, Commission unanimously
accepted staff's suggestion to hold the Volunteer Recognition event at the
Senior Center.
AYES: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge
NOES: None
On motion by Commissioner Surridge and unanimously supported by the Senior
Commission, the Senior Commission offered to cover the cost of alcohol
refreshments for the Senior Volunteer Recognition event.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Gail Lynn introduced to the Senior Commission, Mr. John Coates the new Parks and
Recreation Director.
COMMISSIONER/STAFF REPORTS
Gail Lynn, Recreation Area Manager updated the Commission on the ongoing activities and
upcoming events. Gail reported that for the month of December, 103 Congregate meals were
served on a daily average based on 22 serving days and a daily average of 31 Home Meals
were delivered. On Christmas Eve a special meal was prepared for lunch; Cornish Game Hen
with cornbread sausage stuffing and for New Year's Eve, Roast Beef with mushroom sauce
and English Trifle with berries for dessert.
Starting January 19,2010 North County Community Services will implement a box food
program for "low income" Carlsbad seniors.
