MEETING OF: Senior Commission
DATE OF MEETING: June 3, 2010
TIME OF MEETING: 3:00 p.m.

CALL TO ORDER: Commissioner Nelson called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL was taken by the secretary as follows:
Present: Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge
Absent:
Commissioner Hopkins arrived at 3:26 p.m.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner O'Connell led the Pledge of Allegiance.
PUBLIC COMMENT: Mr. William Norman

Mr. Norman wanted to know if the Senior Safari Trips will be offered again. He said the trips
were fun and would like to see the Senior Center offer the trips again.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, the Minutes of April 1,
2010 and May 6, 2010 were unanimously approved.
CONSENT CALENDAR: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, the Consent Calendar of
April 1, 2010 and May 6, 2010 and June 3, 2010 were unanimously approved.

MAYS. 2010
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, the Summary Report of
April 1, 2010 and May 6, 2010 and June 3, 2010 were unanimously approved.

DEPARTMENT REPORTS:
2. AGENDA ITEM 0610-2 CITY BRANDING
Received a presentation from Community Coordinator, Craddock Stropes on
the new city's logo. The emblem is in the shape of a diamond which denotes
the city's diamond level of service. The four different colors in the logo are;
beige for sand, blue for the sea and sky and brown and green represents the
earth and its bounty.

ACTION: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, the Senior Center Report
April 1, 2010 and May 6, 2010 and June 3, 2010 were unanimously approved.
AYES: Hopkins, Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge
NOES: None
Gail Lynn, Recreation Area Manager, updated Commissioners on the ongoing
activities and upcoming events. The exhibit "America the Beautiful" special exhibit
of photographs from TWAN (The World at Night) was met with great enthusiasm.
Lynn thanked Commissioner Jack Nelson for bringing the exhibit to the Senior
Center. "Simply Cooking" is a great success. The class is so popular now
participants have to be placed on a waitlist. Special lunch meals were served for
Mother's Day and Father's Day.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:
Receive and discuss a letter from Carlsbad resident, Al Jandro.

By proper motion, the Regular Meeting of June 3, 2010 was adjourned at 3:50 p.m.
