MEETING OF: Senior Commission
DATE OF MEETING: July 1,2010
TIME OF MEETING: 3:00 p.m.

CALL TO ORDER: Commissioner Nelson called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL was taken by the secretary as follows:
Present: Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge
Absent: Hopkins
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Savary led the Pledge of Allegiance.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
None.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, the Minutes of the June
3, 2010 meeting were unanimously approved.
PUBLIC COMMENT: Mr. Al Jandro
Mr. Jandro wanted to thank the Senior Commission and Senior Center staff for their
dedication of time and expertise. Mr. Jandro sent a thank you letter to the Senior
Commission dated May 30, 2010.
CONSENT CALENDAR:
1. AGENDA ITEM # 0710-1 SUMMARY REPORT OF JUNE 3. 2010 - (ACTION)
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, Commission unanimously
accepted the June 3, 2010 Summary Report.
AYES: Nelson, O'Connell, Savary and Surridge
NOES: None
ABSENT: Hopkins
DEPARTMENT REPORTS:
2. AGENDA ITEM # 0710-2 CITYWIDE TRAIL PLAN UPDATE - (INFO)
Liz Ketabian, Park Planner, updated the Commission on the Citywide Trail Plan.
Currently there is 38.6 miles of open space trails. The trails at Lake Calavera will
be improved within the next few years. Ketabian discussed the trail volunteer
program, Adopt-a Trail Program, and upcoming events. She informed the
Commission of the City's new interactive trail map that is located on the City's
website.

3. AGENDA ITEM # 0710-3 SENIOR CENTER REPORT- (ACTION)
ACTION: On motion by Commissioner O'Connell, Commission unanimously
approved the June 3, 2010 Senior Center Report.

ABSENT: Hopkins
Gail Lynn, Recreation Area Manager updated the Commission on the ongoing
activities and upcoming events. In the absence of Jack Risley, Gail Lynn reported
for the month of June, 1 ,948 Congregate meals were served and 1 ,060 Home
Meals were delivered for 22 serving days.
4. AGENDA ITEM # 0710-4 LETTER FROM AL JANDRO - (INFO)
Commission O'Connell made a motion to discuss the letter from Carlsbad
resident, Al Jandro. Chairperson Nelson asked the Parks and Recreation
Director if the letter could be passed onto the Parks and Recreation
Commissioners.
