DEPARTMENT REPORTS:
2. AB # 0816-2 GOAL UPDATES (INFORMATION)
Kevin Granse, Recreation Area Manager, updated commissioners on one of their
established goals to bring professional speakers to the commission meetings. There are
two possible professional speakers and one amateur. One possible professional speaker
is Teresa Barnes, President of Hear Communication, a company that provides education
on preventive measures on hearing loss. Mr. Granse said he will contact her. A second
professional speaker is Liam Dunfey of a Senior Village concept program. It is a program
to help seniors stay active and connect with other seniors in their area. Mr. Granse
distributed a flyer on Liam Dunfey to the Commissioners and will put this on a future
agenda. There is a third possible speaker, an Eagle Scout and senior at Carlsbad High
School who would like to present to the commission his design for a succulent hanging
garden. Mr. Granse will also try to get him on a future agenda.
3. AB # 0816-3 SENIOR CENTER REPORT (INFORMATION)
Kevin Granse, Recreation Area Manager, will email the data to the Commissioners.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Commissioner Pearson addressed on one of the Commissioners' goals, the intergenerational
activities. He passed out a flyer to the Commissioners regarding the Carlsbad Charitable
Foundation that donated funds to the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad, in which members garden
with senior citize.ns from Rancho Carlsbad. Commissioner Pearson suggested to visit the Boys
and Girls Club at Rancho Carlsbad to view the garden. Commissioners agreed to have this on
the next meeting agenda to come up with a date and vote on it.
Mr. Granse announced Commissioner Nelson's term expires at the end of September. There are
currently three candidates who applied with the City Clerk's office.
He also announced that the invitations to the Boards and Commission appreciation dinner have
been sent out and the RSVP deadline is September 15th. The event is scheduled for September
29th.
Kevin Granse informed the Commissioners that due to a recent retirement, there has been a
reassignment of Recreation Area Managers. Mr. Granse stated that he will be reassigned to
oversee the Calavara Hills Community Park and Stagecoach Community Park. Mark Olson, who
has been the Aquatics Manager will be reassigned to oversee the Senior Center and the Harding
Community Center. Mr. Granse hopes to introduce him at the next meeting.
