CALL TO ORDER: Chair Rodenhausen called the Regular Meeting to order at 3:00 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Minutes Clerk, Char Buckalew took roll call:
Present: Chair Rodenhausen, Vice Chair Sachs, Commissioners Pearson, Mehan and
Tweedy.
Absent: None
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Commissioner Tweedy led the Pledge of Allegiance.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Chair Rodenhausen requested a motion to approve the minutes of the January 3, 2019
Senior Commission meeting.

Motion by Commissioner Mehan and duly seconded by Commissioner
Pearson to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of
January 3, 2019 was approved.

NEW BUSINESS:
1. SR# 0219-1 SENIOR COMMISSION MEETING RELOCATION -(ACTION)
Commission discussed relocating for a six-month pilot program at City of Carlsbad Council
Chambers.

ACTION: Motion by Commissioner Mehan and duly seconded by Commissioner Tweedy
SR# 0219-1 was approved
AYES: Chair Rodenhausen, Vice Chair Sachs, Commissioners Pearson, Mehan and

2. SR# 0219-2 PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT MASTER PLAN UPDATE-(INFO)
Commission received an update from Special Projects Manager Mick Calarco and Parks &
Recreation Director Chris Hazeltine on the Parks & Recreation Master Plan.
Commissioners requested clarification on the master plan update.
3. SR# 0219-3 SENIOR COMMISSION WORK PLAN DISCUSSION -(INFO)
Commission discussed creating a mission statement for the work plan.
4. SR# 0219-4 DEPARTMENT REPORT -(INFO) .•,
Recreation Area Manager Margaret Hamer gave an oral report on the ongoing activities
and upcoming events.
Commissioners requested additional information on items reported on by Margaret Hamer.

PUBLIC COMMENTS:
Kris Stewart, City of Encinitas Senior Commissioner stopped by to introduce herself.
Suzann Lennox, City of Encinitas Senior Commissioner stopped by to introduce herself.
Joe Gavin introduced San Diego Seniors Community Foundation and spoke about their
programs.
Valerie Nguyen a Carlsbad resident from Sage Creek High school spoke about her genius
project the Senior Prom and extended an invitation to the commissioners.
Sarah Benson with the Senior Wellbeing Foundation discussed the programs they offer for
Seniors.

Mission Statement, purpose and work plan discussion.
