Meeting of: TRAFFIC SAFETY COMMISSION

CALL To ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Punches at
3:05 p.m.
A. ROLLCALL:
Present: Chairman Punches, Comnissioners Wood, Melideo and Harkins.
Absent: Comnissioner O'Day.

The Minutes of the March 5, 1984, Meeting were
approved as presented.
C. REPORT ON ACTION F!EQUESTED AT PREVIOUS MEETING:
Steve Tisdale, Project Manager, reported the crosswalk
on Pi0 Pic0 and Los Floras had been marked and the
school legends on the pavement.
Aircraft was designinq a left-turn lane and the Kelly School signs have been installed.

Steve Tisdale gave the CoMnissioners a mpy of a letter
received today from Jack Ji.n~nink.
Mr. Jack Jimnink, 1435 Chestnut Avenue, addressed the
Comnission on this item, stating a stop sign is
necessary as we11 as the crosswalk marking.

would be taken.
There was a discussion that the crosswalk could become
an invisible crutch for the seniors and create a hazard.
Ron Beckman stated the two-sided R-49 signs should be installed and staff should look at the issue of the crosswalk in context'with the stop sign.

The Traffic Safety Conmission asked staff to look into the traffic (both pedestrian and vehicle) at Harding and Oak and mne up with a reammendation to be brought back to the next Traffic Safety Comnission meeting.
6. School Safety Patrol Limit Lines.
Mr. Steve Ahle, Principal of Pine School, addressed the Comnission on this item, stating with the patrol limit line at 50 feet from the intersection, the mtorists were amfused as to where to stop, and were stopping at the patrol line and not stopping at the corner stop sign. He stated with the students closer to the stop signs, it was easier to see the students and the stop signs and less confusing.
Steve Tisdale reported that with the students closer to the stop sign and the crosswalk, the results were mch better. This was four to ten feet back from the crosswalk. stopping in back of the limit line would be issued a citation.
