MINUTES Attendees: Bob Johnson, Mike Shirey, Martin Lauber, (Traffic Engineering Division), Chief Vales, Sgt. Mike Shipley (Police Department), Bob German (Risk Manager), Larry Willey, Chuck Mitchell (Utilities and Maintenance Department), Mark Rifkin (Chamber of Commerce Transportation Commi ttee) Items Discussed: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Meeting was called to order at 8:34 a.m. ADDrOVal of Minutes. The minutes of the Friday, March 25, 1988 Traffic Safety Coordinating Com- mittee were approved as presented. Oral Communication. There was no audience in attendance to comment on this item. Tamarack Avenue - Request to establish a prima facie speed limit easterly of El Camino Real. Bob Johnson gave the staff report as contained in the packet. After discussion a motion was moved, seconded, and passed unanimously to recommend to the Traffic Safety Commission to establish a 45 mile per hour prima facie speed limit on Tamarack Avenue between El Camino Real and Elm Avenue and to establish a 35 mile per hour prima facie speed limit on Tamarack Avenue between Elm Avenue and Harwich Drive. Hillside Drive - Request to establish a prima facie speed limit between Park Drive and Neblina Drive. This item was previously heard at the April 4, 1988 Traffic Safety Cmission meeting with the Commission recommending that a 35 mile per hour prima facie speed limit be established on Hillside Drive between Park Drive and Valencia Avenue and that a 25 mile per hour speed limit be posted on Hillside Drive between Valencia Avenue and Park Drive. Bob Johnson gave the staff report as contained in the packet. Committee discussion centered around the need to recomnend to the Cmission to establish one (1) speed limit on Hillside Drive, and that being 35 miles per hour which is in accordance with the speed surveys. Since the Commission previously recommended that the speed limit be 25 miles per hour through the residential area. A motion was moved, seconded, and passed unanimously to recommend to the Traffic Safety Commission to establish a prima facie speed limit of 35 miles per hour on Hillside Drive between Park drive and Neblina Drive and to post a 25 mile per hour speed limit on Hillside Drive from Neblina Drive to Kelly Drive. 6. Other Business There was no other business brought up under this item. The next meeting of the Traffic Safety Coordinating Committee will be held on Friday, May 27, 1988 at 8:30 a.m. in the Las Palmas Engineering Conference room. The meeting adjourned at 9:30 a.m. 7. 8.
