Re: POLICE DEPARTMENT’S PREPARATIONS FOR INAUGURATION DAY
This memorandum provides information related to Carlsbad Police Department’s preparations
for Inauguration Day.
Background
On Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, the FBI released a joint intelligence bulletin, warning police
agencies that the deadly breach at the Capitol would be a “significant driver of violence” in the
days leading up to Inauguration Day. The FBI also advised law enforcement agencies to be on
high alert for extremist activity and to share intelligence on any potential threats (see the news
article here, https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/13/us/fbi-police-threats-inauguration.html).
Discussion
The Carlsbad Police Department’s senior management analyst has been closely working with the
San Diego Law Enforcement Coordination Center (SD-LECC), the San Diego Sheriff’s Department’s
Threat Assessment Group (TAG), and the local crime analyst group to share all information
regarding any activity related to Inauguration Day. The senior management analyst also monitors
social media for any planned demonstrations or potential threats of violence in the county and
shares this information with the SD-LECC and TAG, whose primary mission is to assess the
information for plausibility and to disseminate it accordingly. More information on the SD-LECC
can be found on the following website: https://sd-

Next Steps
The Carlsbad Police Department will remain on high alert and will continue to work with allied
agencies to monitor for any potential threats of violence.
