This memo focuses on actions and information that are new since the last update. Emergency Operations Center •Emergency Operations Center activated to support COVID-19 mitigation and response operations and information sharing. •The Emergency Operations Center distributed personal protective equipment to 32 Carlsbad congregate and skilled care facilities, as well as La Posada, on Dec. 22 to mitigate the spread and impact of COVID-19: o 50 gallons of hand sanitizer o 2,200 surgical gowns o 17,800 gloves o 6,800 face masks o 4,120 N95 masks o 26 containers of wipes o 975 cloth face coverings Regional status of outbreak (All data from Jan. 5) •The State of California is reporting the Southern Region’s intensive care unit capacity as 0%. San Diego County is reporting the county’s ICU capacity as 20%. Las Villas De Carlsbad is showing 12 fatalities. Fatalities are also being reported at both Active Care and Sunrise, but the state reporting criteria only designates “< (less than) 11” until 12 or more deaths occur. • The most current San Diego County sub-regional report shows a 11.8 fatality rate per 100,000 residents in Carlsbad. CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS Jan. 6, 2021 Page 5 • Update on senior meal program: o During the past week, provided 752 meals to Carlsbad residents 60 or older.  424 meals were delivered to residents’ homes by staff  328 meals were picked-up at the Senior Center by residents o Total number of meals provided represents a 34% increase in the average total number of meals provided before the pandemic for a four-day week, accounting for a holiday. o Picked up boxes of donated fresh produce from the Carlsbad Strawberry Company and re-distributed the produce through the senior meal program. • Provided the following virtual recreation programs: o Virtual preschool for children ages 3 and 4 started a new session. Participants are enjoying classic holiday themed sing-alongs, story times and crafts. o The Senior Center staff hosted a virtual holiday gift wrapping party that included festive music, trivia and games. o Successful Aging in Place: Navigating Senior Housing Options o UCSD Osher Lifelong Learning series presented a lecture titled Music and Mind: The Mahlers and Freud. o A virtual Leo Carrillo Ranch-inspired Gingerbread Ranch Contest was held for all ages and skills in partnership with the Friends of Carrillo Ranch, Inc.
