Subject: Community Arts Grants Exploration of Future Direction
Recommended Action
Staff recommends the Arts Commissioners engage in a lively exploration of the future directions of
Community Arts Grants.
Executive Summary/Discussion
Community Arts Coordinator Megan Gilby will facilitate a discussion including the following questions:
• Are our grant processes in sync with our guiding principles and values?
• How do we define impact? What impact would we like to achieve? How will we measure it?
• What are schools and arts organizations facing during the pandemic and into the future? What’s
the role for community arts grants in helping them to meet those challenges?
This will be the first of several discussions in the coming year. Any changes or new components that
emerge will impact future grant cycles starting in 2022-2023.
Next Steps
Staff will provide a summary at the next Arts Commission meeting in February 2021.
