Subject: Update on Temporary Public Art Projects
Recommended Action
None needed at this time.
Executive Summary/Discussion
Public Art Coordinator, Tonya Rodzach will provide an update on the early stages of two temporary public
art projects that are on the horizon:
• Carlsbad Village Business Association pre-pilot program
• Carlsbad Sculpture Garden exhibition
The pre-pilot program with the Carlsbad Village Business Association (CVBA) was launched in November when CVBA worked directly with 31 local businesses in the Village, engaging local artist Monica Martin to create Fall-themed painted storefront windows. The overall goal of this pre-pilot program is to increase interaction between the business and arts sectors, providing a greater awareness of local and regional
artists while heightening visibility for the arts in Carlsbad.
To highlight the 25 years of featuring outdoor sculptural work in the Carlsbad Sculpture Garden, Cultural
Arts staff would like to recognize artists who have previously exhibited their work. This 25 Year
Retrospective exhibition continues to foster interest for public art in our community and offer artists a
unique opportunity to showcase their original works in an outdoor setting. These temporary public art projects are supported by the city’s General Fund budget. Staff intends to explore more options for broadening opportunities for temporary public art projects in 2021.
