Recommended Action Receive a staff update on programming celebrating National Arts & Humanities Month.
Executive Summary/Discussion
October is National Arts & Humanities Month (NAHM), the largest annual celebration for the arts and
humanities in the nation, launched by Americans for the Arts more than 30 years ago. Cultural Arts has
planned programming to celebrate both NAHM and 2020 as the Year of the Woman, commemorating the
100th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote. William D.
Cannon Gallery Curator Karen McGuire will present a preview of the new exhibit, opening October 6, titled “Four Visions: A Celebration of the Year of the Woman.” Community Arts Coordinator Megan Gilby will provide a preview of the upcoming line-up of virtual performing arts events.
Next Steps
Arts Commissioners are encouraged to view and participate in arts programming in October.
