In accordance with your request, Ninyo & Moore has provided geotechnical testing services dur-
ing construction of the Cameo Road Water Main project located in Carlsbad, California.
Construction generally occurred between April 11, 2008 and April 21, 2008. Our services con-
sisted of on-call testing during the placement of water main backfill. This letter summarizes our
servic6 and presents the results of our field and laboratory testing.
Laboratory testing was performed on representative samples of material used for water
main backfill to evaluate modified Proctor density and optimum moisture content. Labora-
tory testing of the samples was conducted in general accordance with American Society for
Testing and Materials (ASTM) D 1557 and the results a1e presented in Table 1, Modified
Proctor Density Test Results.
Field density testing of the water main backfill was performed in general accordance with the
ASTM D 6938 (Nuclear Method). The specified relative compaction for the water main back-
fill was 90 percent of the modified Proctor density. During the earthwork operations, when a
field density test was performed that resulted in less than the specified relative compaction, the
area was generally reworked and a retest was performed. The results of the field density tests
are presented in Table 2, Summary of Field Density Tests. The approximate locations of the
field density tests are shown on Figure 1, Field Density Test Location Map. The field density

tests performed during the placement of water main backfill indicated the specified relative
compaction after testing the reworked areas.
The geotechnical services outlined in this report have been conducted in accordance with current
practice and the standard of care exercised by geotechnical consultants performing similar tasks
in this area. No warranty, expressed or implied, is made regarding the observations and conclu-
sions expressed in this report. The reported test results represent the relative compaction and
moisture content at the locations tested. It is important to note that the precision of field density
tests and the maximum dry density test is not exact and variations should be expected. The re-
ported locations and elevations of the density tests are estimated based on correlations with the
site plans. Further accuracy is not implied.
