Executive Summary Commissioner Diana LaMar resigned her position on January 11, 2018, leaving an unexpired term to be filled through September 2021. Commissioner La Mar was initially appointed in September 2017 to fill the expired term of Commissioner Min. The City Clerk's office received applications from the following residents wishing to serve on the Senior Commission (Exhibit 2): • Bryan Devore • John Rodenhausen Discussion Government Code Section §54970-54974, known as the Maddy Act, requires that on or before December 31 of each year the legislative body shall prepare a Local Appointments List which contains the appointive terms of Board and Commission members which will expire in the next calendar year. The name of the incumbent appointee and the date of appointment and the term expiration date is also included on the list. Based on the prepared list, the City Clerk's office accepts applications (available on the City's website and in the City Clerk's office) for any upcoming vacancies. Carlsba.d Municipal Code Chapter 2.38 states that the Senior Commission shall consist of five members, appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council. • Other members of the Senior Commission are: Patricia Mehan, Ray Pearson, Sheri Sachs, and David Tweedy. Members of the Senior Commission are subject to the provisions of the Political Reform Act, and must file a Statement of Economic Interests. Fiscal Analysis None. Next Steps Following the appointment of one member to the Senior Commission, the City Clerk's office will update the Committee roster and coordinate the Oath of Office and filing of the appointees Statement of Economic Interest. March 27, 2018 Item #10 Page 1 of 7 Environmental Evaluation (CEQA) Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project" within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment, and therefore does not require environmental review. Public Notification This item was noticed in accordance with the Ralph M. Brown Act and was available for public viewing and review at least 72 hours prior to the scheduled meeting date. Exhibits 1. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows: 1. That the above recitations are true and correct. 2. That the following Carlsbad resident is hereby appointed to serve on the Senior Commission, for a term ending in September 2021. Host of Real Talk Carlsbad, a Facebook Live show focused on showcasing individuals, ousinesses, non-profits, and service organizations in and around Carlsbad. Activities: Member of public relations committee for Casa de Amparo. Much of my business is dedicated to helping seniors. After experiencing first-hand some of the myriad of issues seniors face as they age, I created Senior Savers TV to help bring hese issues to light. The show also shows programs and servf ces available so that Additional seniors can live longer, more fulfilled lives.
