Recommended Action
Adopt a Resolution appointing two members to the Historic Preservation Commission.
Executive Summary
The terms of Commissioners Susan Gutierrez and Raul Diaz expired in April 2016.Commissioner
Gutierrez replaced Commissioner Tom Wachter in May 2012.Commissioner Diaz replaced
Commissioner Don Christiansen in February 2008 and was reappointed in May 2012.
Discussion
The vacancies occurred on the Historic Preservation Commission in April 2016.City staff provided
notification of the vacancies by posting notices on the City website, at the libraries and issued
press releases.However,a sufficient number of applications were not received until 2017.
Other members of the Historic Preservation Commission are:Laurie Boone, Christopher Garcia
and Linda Geldner.

None.
Next Steps
Appoint two members to the Historic Preservation Commission.
Environmental Evaluation (CEQA).
Pursuant to Public Resources Code Section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project"
within the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change in
the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment, and
therefore does not require environmental review.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD,
CALIFORNIA,APPOINTING TWO MEMBERS TO THE HISTORIC
PRESERVATION COMMISSION
WHEREAS,the terms of Commissioners Susan Gutierrez and Raul Diaz expired in April 2016; and
WHEREAS,there are currently two vacancies on the Historic Preservation Commission, and
WHEREAS,Commissioner Gutierrez replaced Commissioner Tom Wachter in May 2012,and
Commissioner Diaz replaced Commissioner Don Christiansen in February 2008 and was reappointed in
May 2012; and
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California,as
follows:
1.That the above recitations are true and correct.
2.That the following Carlsbad residents are hereby appointed to serve on the Historic
Preservation Commission, for a term ending in April 2021.
