RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2013-285 appointing one member to the Arts Commission.
ITEM EXPLANATION:
Commissioner Alan Lechusza Aquallo, PhD, has resigned effective November 4,2013. Dr. Aquallo has
served approximately four years and eleven months.
Other members ofthe Arts Commission are: Aaron Alter, Sherman DeForest, Joann Johnson, Joan
Markovits, Tina Schmidt and Sibylla Voll.
One appointment to the Arts Commission is therefore required.
Applications received for the Arts Commission are on file in the Office ofthe City Cleri(.
NOTE: Members of the Arts Commission are subject to the provisions of the Political Reform Act, and
must file a Statement of Economic Interests.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 21065, this action does not constitute a "project" within
the meaning of CEQA in that it has no potential to cause either a direct physical change in the
environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment, and
therefore does not require environmental review.

It is with a troubled heart that I have to resign from my volunteer position as a Commissioner ofthe Arts for the
City of Carlsbad. This resignation should be enacted as of this message (Monday Nov. 4,2013).
It has been a wonderful experience serving at this level for the City of Carlsbad. I look forward to continuing to
support the arts community in further capacities in the future.
