PLANTING SPECIFICATIONS
A. SCOPE OF WORK
The work to be done includes the furnishing of all labor, materials, equip-
ment and transportation, both foreseeable and unforeseeable, in performing
all the work required to complete said work indicated on these drawings and
specifications.
B. WORKMANSHIP
The work of constructing and installing landscaping shall be c_onducted in
an efficient and satisfactory manner.
C. PERMITS AND NOTICES
Contractor shall be responsible for obtaining any and all necessary building
permits and notices unless otherwise stated.
D. LICENSES AND INSURANCE
Contractor shall carry a necessary California State Contractor's License.
Contractor shall carry all necessary compensation and liability insurance to
cover his workmen and work so as to protect Owner from any suits, liens,
and damages.
E. STORAGE OF MATERIALS
All materials shall be stored in a location agreed upon as per Owner's instruc-
tions and shall be stored in a manner so as not to obstruct any public rights
of way. Contractor shall be responsible for protection of all his equipment
and materials.
F. SITE INSPECTION
Contractor shall visit the site and shall familiarize himself with all existing
conditions prior to final submission of bid. Contractor shall also determine
the means of transferring materials to the job site and any other factors
which may pertain to said job.
Site Conditions
Exercise extreme care in excavating and working near existing utilities at
job site. Contractor to coordinate with Owner alt utility locations prior to
any work. Contractor shall be responsible for any damages to utilities due
to his operations and/or neglect.
C. WATERING
Owner shal_l be responsible for supplying all necessary water through the
existing distribution sysJem. Contractor must supply all necessary equip-
ment to distribute water.
ti. CHANGES AND EXTRAS
Any changes and/or extras from original Contract shall have prior written
approval by the Landscape Architect and/or Owner.
I. SAFETY MEASURES
Contractor shall .provide all safety measures such as signs, guards, lights,
barricades, and other protective measures as may be required.
J, INTERPRETATION OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS
Should there be an error or discrepancy in or between the plans, specifica-
tions and planting list, Contractor shall notify the Landscape Architect.
Contractor is responsible for verifying all plant counts prior to bid accept-
ance, and shall notify Landscape Architect of said error(s) and discrepan-
cies.
K. SITE PREPARATION
1. Existing soil shall be cleared of all rock, debris, and noxious materials.
2. Stockpile soil for earth mounds shall be placed in permanent location
and graded to finish shape.
3. All areas shall, be graded to insure proper drainage.
II. Finish grades shall be below hard,scape as follows: 2" for ground cover

L. SOIL PREPARATION pp.e,t,-,
1. All plant materials -shall conform per California State Department of Agri-
cultural Standards for Nursery Inspection and Grading, No. 1 grade.
2. Contractor shall be responsible for the maintenance and protection of all
plants from sun, drought, wind, theft, rain and heat at all times before
and during planting operations.
3. All ground cover areas shall receive the following amendments which shall

All ground cover areas shall receive weed control treatment consisting of
EC ·Surflan rated as per manufacturer's specifications.
11. All lawn areas shall receive the following amendments which shall be
thoroughly mixed into top 611 of soil.
(a) Nitrolized Organic Redwood
Soil Conditioner
(b) Gypsum
(c) Pre-plant Fertilizer
(d) Dry Commercial "Water In"
Seed Application at Rate of
Sod Lawn to be
All lawn areas shall be pre-moistened to a depth of 811 immediately prior
to any planting.
All newly-sodded, seeded, and stolonized areas shalt be protected from
traffic.
Backfill for all shrubs and trees shall consist of:
(a) 1 /3-nitrolized organic redwood
soil conditioner
(b) 2/3-native soil
(cl Pre-plant fertilizer
M. PLANTING
1. All plant material shall be true to name and subject to inspection and
approval by Owner.
2. Substitution of any plant material subject to approv.al by Owner and/or
Landscape Architect.
3. Contractor shall be responsible for all plant material from delivery to
the site .to the written acceptance of contracted work.

Container-grown plants shall be planted in plant pits two ( 2) times
width of plant container and one and one-half (HJ times depth of
plant container. The plant crown to be set slightly higher to com-
pensate for compaction.
Prune plants as directed by Landscape Architect.
All plants to be watered immediately after installation.
All plants to receive Agrifor-m 21-gram tablet (20-10-5) at a rate of:
(a) One per one-gallon, two per five-gallon, three per fifteen-gallon,
three per foot of box tree width.
(b) All rooted ground cover plants to receive Agriform 5-gram ( 20-
10-5) tablet per plant.
Plant hormone shall be installed ·on alt boxed plant material as per
manufacturer's specifications.
All trees up to fifteen { 15) gallon size shall be staked. Set stakes on
windward side of tree. All trees shal_l be guyed, staked or anchored
immediately after planting.
All shrubs and trees shall receive watering basin and mulch as per
details.
All planting areas st,all receive post planting fertilizer sixty {60) days
after planting operations, and shall be applied at a rate per manufac-
turer's specifications.
Plant quantities on the plant list are for Contractor's convenience only
and not guaranteed to be accurate.
13. _ Plant symbols take precedence over quantities specified.
N. PLANT MATERIAL GUARANTEE AND REPLACEMENT
All shrubs, trees and ground cover installed shall be guaranteed by Contrac-
tor to maintain healthy, vigorous growth_ and appearance for a minimum period
of ninety ( 90) days after written acceptance of project and/or final c1cceptance
by Owner. All plants found to be dead or in unhealthy state shall be re-

O. MAINTENANCE I_,
1. Maintenance period shall begin on the first day after alt planting in the
project ls complete, checked, accepted, and written approval from Land-
scape Architect and/or Owner is given to begin the maintenance period,
and shall continue for no less than sixty (60) days (continuous days).
(a) Maintenance shall consist of watering, weeding, caring for plants,
edging, mowing and clean-up.
(b) The project shall be kept in a neat, presentable appearance al all
times.
2. Contractor shall continuously maintain all involved areas of project dur-
ing the progress of work and during the maintenance period until the
final acceptance of work by Land,;cape Architect and/or Owner.

IRRIGATION SP.EC IF IC AT IONS
A. SCOPE OF WORK
Work included in these specifications shall include furnishing of all mater-
ials, equipment, appliances, labor and permits for the installation and con-
struction of an irrigation system as shown on the plans.
B. INSTALLATION
1. All lines, valves, and sprinkler heads shown on plans are diagrammatic
and are to be located in planter areas where possible.
2. All workmanship and materials shall conform to local building and plumb-
ing codes.
{b) Laterals shall have minimum earth cover of /'.2-11,

4, Backfill of all trenches shall be free of rocksvand foreign materials.
Backfill to be uniformly placed, tamped and finish-graded to final
grades.
5. All PVC pipe to be installed as per manufacturer's instructions.
6. All lawn pop-up heads to be installed flush with finished grade.
7. All shrub heads to be installed 6" above grade and set a minimum of
Ii" away from adjacent paving and/or structures.
8. All impact heads to be reinforced with 3/8" diameter reinforcing steel
and secured with galvanized wire, No. 3 re-bar shall be a minimum of :24'1 in length.

D. TESTING
1. All irrigation lines to be flushed prior to placement of sprinkler heads.
2. Contractor shall be responsible for leak-proof system and shall repair
any visible leaks. ·
E-SPRAY ADJUSTMENTS
Contractor shall adjust all sprinkler heads as to minimize overspray onto
walks, paving, and building structures.
