G2037-32-02 Project No. G2037-32-02 November 1, 2019 Shea Homes 9990 Mesa Rim Road San Diego, California 92121 Attention: Mr. Matt Davey Subject: FINAL REPORT OF TESTING AND OBSERVATION SERVICES PERFORMED DURING CONSTRUCTION OF SITE IMPROVEMENTS LANAI II LOTS 1 THROUGH 10; CT 14-04 CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA Dear Mr. Davey: In accordance with your request, we have provided compaction testing services during construction of the site improvements at the subject project. The project plans are titled Improvement Plans for: Miles Buena Vista (Robert Miles Subdivision), by BHA Inc., signature dated June 9, 2017. We provided our services between November 14, 2017 and June 24, 2019. The scope of our services consisted of performing in-place density testing on a “call out” basis during retaining wall and utility trench backfill, including storm drain, water main, water laterals, sewer main, sewer laterals, and joint trench. We also performed in-place density tests on street and sidewalk subgrade, aggregate base and asphalt concrete. We performed laboratory compaction tests on representative soil samples in accordance with ASTM D 1557 (maximum dry density and optimum moisture content). The results of laboratory tests are summarized in Table II. We performed in-place density testing using a nuclear gauge in substantial conformance with ASTM D 6938. Results of the field tests are summarized in Table I. Laboratory testing was also performed on asphalt concrete to determine the gradation, stability, and maximum density. Laboratory tests on asphalt concrete samples were performed in accordance with ASTM D 2726-17 Hveem Density; D 2041-11 Theoretical Maximum Density; D 1560-15 Stability; D 6307-16 Asphalt Content; and C 136 Sieve Analysis. The results of the asphalt concrete laboratory tests are summarized in Tables III through IV. Similarly, a relative compaction of at least 95 percent was achieved on the roadway subgrade soil and aggregate base materials. In-place density test results for asphalt concrete indicates a dry density of at least 95 percent of the laboratory Hveem maximum density. Based on observations and test results, it is the opinion of Geocon Incorporated that the construction of site improvements has been performed in substantial conformance with the recommendations of the project geotechnical report.
