Hi John,
Please see resident comment regarding bike access on Cannon westbound through the I-5
interchange. I believe you have the background on this and I know Commissioner Penseyres has
brought this up a few times including during our recent GMP monitoring analysis. I think we can
come up with a options to improve safety for cyclists here but I realize it all needs to go through
Caltrans. Should I setup a meeting with Caltrans to discuss our options here?
Thanks,
Nathan

Hello City of Carlsbad Traffic and Mobility Commission,
I would like to recommend an evaluation of the pedestrian and bike line access along
the northside of Cannon Road near the Strawberry fields. We use Cannon Road to ride
our bikes to the beach, as well as when we run/walk on Cannon. The sidewalk ends on
the north side of Cannon just west of LegoLand Drive. The bike lane also closes out,
which makes it dangerous to be traveling west on Cannon, especially for my 12 year old
who likes to bike to the beach in order to surf. I know several families, like ours, who
would appreciate the pedestrian and bike lanes continue from Legoland Drive to the
freeway interchange, past the Strawberry field. This is an extremely busy interchange
and the only way to safely walk/run/bike along Cannon Road in this section is to be on
the south side of Cannon Road, adjacent to Car Country. This makes for confusion and

congestion between pedestrians, cyclists and cars.
Thank you for your consideration to this matter.
Thoughtfully,
Gretchen
