DETAIL A AREA 8 SPECIAL EXCAVATION AND SHORING ZONES
SCALE: 1 "s2Q'
NOTES f'OR DITAIL A:
1. EXCAVATION WITHIN ZONE A SHALL BE SHORED WITH A SUITABLE SHORING
SYSTEM SUCH AS HYDRAULIC "QUICK" SHORING OR TRENCH SHIELDS. THE
SHORING SHALL FIT SNUGLY AT BOTH SIDES OF THE EXCAVATION SO THAT
LOAD IS TRANSFERRED FROM THE SIDE OF THE EXCAVATION CLOSEST TO
THE BUILDING TO THE SIDE EXCAVATION FURTHEST FROM THE BUILDING.
WHERE TRENCH BOXES ARE USED, SPECIAL CARE SHALL BE TAKEN TO size:
THE BOX TO MATCH THE EXCAVATION WIDTH. THE SPACE OR VOIDS BETWEEN
THE SHIELD AND THE TRENCH WALLS SHALL BE FILLED WITH GRANULAR
MATERIAL SO THAT THE SHIELD FITS SNUGLY.
AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO USING SHORING WITHIN ZONE A, STRATEGICALLY
SEQUENCED EXCAVATIONS COULD BE MADE. IF USED, THE ZONES SHALL
BE EXCAVATED AS SLOTS NO GREATER THAN 5' IN WIDTH, ORIENTED
PERPENDICULAR TO THE NEAREST FACE OF THE BUILDING.
ANY EXCAVATION WITHIN ZONE A SHALL BE BACKFILLED BY THE END OF
THE DAY. IN NO CASE SHALL E)(CAVATIONS IN ZONE A BE LEFT OPEN OVER
NIGHT.
2. EXCAVTIONS WITHIN "ZONE B" REQUIRES THAT A SHORING SYSTEM BE USED
WHICH HAS BEEN DESIGNED BY A CALIFORNIA REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL
ENGINEER ON BEHALF OF THE CONTRACTOR. THE SHORING PLAN SHOULD
BE PROVIDED TO SEMPRA UTILITIES FOR REVIEW.

EROSION CONTROL NOTES
I. IN CASE EMERGENCY WORK IS REQUIRED, CONTACT ROB MANRIQUEZ OR MEHDI MIREMADI
At HALEY & ALDRICH, INC. (619) 280-9210
2. EQUIPMENT AND WORKERS FOR EMERGENCY WORK SHALL BE MADE AVAILABLE AT ALL
TIMES DURING THE RAINY SEASON. ALL NECESSARY MATERIALS SHALL BE STOCKPILED ON
SITE AT CONVENIENT LOCATIONS TO FACILITATE RAPID CONSTRUCTION OF TEMPORARY
DEVICES WHEN RAIN IS EMINENT.
J. DEVICES SHOWN ON PLANS SHALL NOT BE MOVED OR MODIFIED WITHOUT THE APPROVAL
OF THE ENGINEERING INSPECTOR.
4. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL RESTORE ALL EROSION CONTROL DEVICES TO WORKING ORDER
TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE CITY ENGINEER AFTER EACH RUN-OFF PRODUCING
RAINFALL.
5. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL ADDITIONAL EROSION CONTROL MEASURES AS MAY BE
REQUIRED BY THE CITY ENGINEER DUE TO UNCOMPLETED GRADING OPERATIONS OR
UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES WHICH MAY ARISE.
6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE AND SHALL TAKE NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS TC
PREVENT PUBLIC TRESPASS ONTO AREAS WHERE IMPOUNDED WATERS CREATE A
HAZARDOUS CONDITION.
7. ALL EROSION CONTROL MEASURES PROVIDED PER THE APPROVED GRADING PLAN SHALL
BE INCORPORATED HEREON.
8. GRADED AREAS AROUND THE PROJECT PERIMETER MUST DRAIN AWAY FROM THE FACE OF
SLOPE AT THE CONCLUSION OF EACH WORKDAY.
9. ALL REMOVABLE PROTECTIVE DEVICES SHOWN SHALL BE IN PLACE AT THE END OF EACH
WORKING DAY WHEN THE FIVE (5) DAY RAIN PROBABILITY FORECAST EXCEEDS FORTY
PERCENT (40%). SILT AND OTHER DEBRIS SHALL BE REMOVED AFTER EACH RAINFALL.
10. ALL GRAVEL BAGS SHALL BE BURLAP TYPE WITH 3/4 INCH MINIMUM AGGREGATE.
11. SHOULD GERMINATION OF HYDROSEED SLOPES FAIL TO PROVIDE EFFECTIVE COVERAGE OF
GRADED SLOPES (90% COVERAGE) PRIOR TO NOVEMBER 15, THE SLOPES SHALL BE
STABILIZED BY PUNCH STRAW INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 35.023 OF THE
EROSION AND SEDIMENT CONTROL HANDBOOK OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION,
STATE OF CALIFORNIA.
12. srocKPILED SOIL SHALL BE PLACED ON 10 mil. POLYETHYLENE SHEETING. THE SOIL
STOCKPILES SHALL BE COVERED WITH 10 mil. POLYETHYLENE SHEETING AT THE END OF
EACH WORKDAY AND DURING ANY PRECIPITATION. THE SHEETING SHOULD BE SECURED BY
PLACING GRAVEL FILLED BAGS AS NECESSARY ATOP AND AROUND THE PERIMETER OF
THE SOIL STOCKPILE. IF MULTIPLE SHEETS ARE REQUIRED TO COVER THE STOCKPILE,
THEY SHALL BE OVERLAPPED AND/OR SECURED IN A MANNER THAT PREVENTS THE
INFILTRATION OF WATER. FIBER ROLLS ARE TO BE PLACED AROUND STOCKPILE PERIMETER
TO FORM A SECONDARY DAM PREVENTING THE ESCAPE OF SEDIMENT.
TEMPORARY EROSION CONTROL PLANTING AND IRRIGATION
I. THIS PROJECT CONSISTS OF MAKING EXCAVATIONS WITHIN RELATIVELY LEVEL AREAS,
REMOVING HYDROCARBON CONTAMINATED SOIL AND BACK FILLING THE EXCAVATIONS WITH
APPROVED COMPACTED MATERIAL. THE EXCAVATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE OPEN FOR A
LIMITED TIME, AND AS SUCH, IT IS ASSUMED THAT EROSION CONTROL Of' EXCAVATION
CUT SLOPES {SUCH AS HYDROSEEDING) SHALL NOT BE REQUIRED).
2. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL EMPLOY SAND FILLED BAGS OR OTHER MEASURES TC PREVENT
THE FLOW OF SURFACE WATER (FROM RAIN OR OTHER SOURCES) INTO THE OPEN
EXCAVATIONS.
