HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-04-05; Traffic and Mobility Commission; ; POLICE REPORTMonthly Police Report April 5, 2021 Lieutenant Steve Thomas Introduction •Steve Thomas •Police officer for 29 years •20 years with Carlsbad Police Department •Retiring at the end of the year •Traffic has been the only division in the police department I have not worked 2 Serious Injury Collision on 3/16/21 •Cyclist was riding westbound on La Costa Avenue at Esfera Street •Cyclist fell off his bicycle after losing control riding down hill •Cyclist rolled under a work truck which was turning into a driveway on the south side of the street •Cyclist was run over by the rear tire of the truck sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries 3 E-Bike Education/Enforcement •Summer Bicycle Patrol is still taking place-Enforcement efforts will be directed at the seawall and downtown areas. E-Bike enforcement/education will be a priority •The Traffic Division will continue to enforce all traffic laws as it relates to bicycle enforcement •Traffic Division E-Bike enforcement detail on 3/24 and 3/31 4 Stop The Asian Hate March •March 21st from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm •250 participants •Marched from 300 Carlsbad Village Drive to Cannon Park •Due to the large number of participants, south bound lanes of Carlsbad Boulevard had to be closed for the safety of the participants, cyclists and citizens •Roadway closed for about 45 minutes 5 High Schools and Middle Schools Opened March 29th •Motors back to traffic enforcement at high schools to keep kids safe & Crossing Guards back at the school locations 6
