Bicycle and Motorcycle Safety Month
•Summer Bicycle Patrol continues to take place by both the Traffic Division and Patrol. Enforcement efforts are directed at the seawall and downtown areas. E-Bike enforcement/education will be a priority
•The Traffic Division will continue to enforce all traffic laws as it relates to bicycle enforcement
•We have receiving several complaints near schools mainly in the mornings. Motor Officers have been asked to extra patrol school zones in the morning hours

Serious Injury Collision on 5/16/21
•On 5/16/21 at about 9:00 pm, officers responded to the7400 block of Alicante Road
for a traffic collision. When Officers arrived, they found two vehicles with major
damage and one male driver trapped inside the driver’s side portion of a Toyota
Corolla. The other driver, who was driving a black Jaguar, was assisting the driver that
was trapped inside the Toyota.The driver of the Toyota was transported to Palomar
Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the Jaguar fled on foot once
Carlsbad Police Officers arrived on scene.The preliminary investigation by the
Carlsbad Police Department determined that the Jaguar was traveling southbound in
the 7400 block of Alicante Road at a speed unsafe for conditions when he broadsided
the driver of the Toyota causing serious injuries.On 5/17/21 at about 5:00 am, the
driver of the Jaguar was contacted at the hospital with moderate injuries. No arrests
have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

Injury Collision Involving an E-Bike
•On 5/21/21 at about 7:40 am, officers responded to College Blvd., north
of Cannon Road for a traffic collision Involving an E-bike. Officers
determined through the investigation that a high school student was
riding his E-bike southbound on College Boulevard in the number one
lane approaching Cannon Road. The cyclist was moving faster than the
car in front of him, and the cyclist ran into the rear of the vehicle. The
cyclist fell off bicycle sustaining a leg injury and road rash. The cyclist
was transported to a local hospital. The cyclist was determined to be
most at fault.
