HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-05-26; Library Board of Trustees; MinutesPage 2 of 3 Library Board of Trustees Minutes of the May 26, 2021 Meeting ACTION: Motion by Trustee Parsons, seconded by Trustee Hu Isa rt, to approve a memo to the City Council in support of the Library budget for fiscal year 2021-22 with amendments by staff to include fee changes -4/0/1/0 (Larson -Absent) GENEALOGY & CARLSBAD HISTORY DIVISION OVERVIEW: Senior Librarian Sarah Dana presented an overview of the Genealogy & Carlsbad History division including the genealogy collection, partnership with the North San Diego County Genealogical Society, genealogy computer lab, availability of research and education from home, oral history transcription, digitization projects, collection management and staff development. Senior Librarian Sarah Dana also shared with the board that she is resigning her position with the Carlsbad City Library. SUMMER READING ADVENTURE PREVIEW: Interim Senior Librarian Allyson Goodwin presented a preview of the annual Summer Reading Adventure. This year's theme is Tails and Tales. CARLSBAD READS TOGETHER 2021 FINAL REPORT: Training Coordinator Emily Bruce presented the Carlsbad Reads Together 2021 final report including data on programs and goals, outreach and promotion, and survey results. TECHNOLOGY REPORT AND UPDATE: Senior Business Systems Specialist Devin Castel presented the Technology Report and Update including new library card registration, holds placed, checked out items, public computer and wireless use, and_top library page website views. Senior Librarian Marsha Weeks presented to the board highlights of the updated library webpage. LIBRARY SERVICES DURING COVID-19: The board received an update and presentation from Library & Cultural Arts Director Suzanne Smithson on library services during COVID-19 including all three library sites opening six days per week; interior browsing and curbside delivery services offered; virtual programming; material quarantine times and preparations for next steps with change in tier status or elimination of State's tier status program projected for June 15. DIRECTOR'S REPORT: Director Smithson updated the board on a variety of topics: an unplanned power outage at the Library Learning Center; status on streaming services that are no longer available; staff accomplishments; the city's new telephone system; temporary Carlsbad Fire Station 2 to be occupied and operational; opening of the sculpture garden near the Georgina Cole Library; honoring outgoing Trustee Hu Isa rt and Trustee Parsons at the next Library Board
