E-Bike Safety
•Summer Bicycle Patrol continues to take place by both the Traffic Division and Patrol. Enforcement efforts are directed at the seawall and downtown areas. E-Bike enforcement/education will be a priority
•The Police Department together with the School District held virtual meeting on e-bike safety and laws sharing the following information:
a)Understanding what’s legal and what’s not when it comes to e-bikes
b)Your responsibility as a parent or legal guardian of an e-bike rider
c)Tips for keeping kids safe and their driving records clean
d)Why the police department and parents need to work as a team to keep our community safe
•The City of Carlsbad has also prepared a general information e-bike safety and laws on the city website

Fatal Collision
•Solo vehicle and occupant collision
•54-year-old male lived in complex where TC occurred
•Driver accelerated (unknown reason) through metal entry gate, continued
accelerating, uncontrollably, east on Breakwater Rd, collided into parked vehicle, palm
tree and block wall
•Driver door was not fully secured prior to first collision or became ajar during the
multiple collisions causing driver to be partially ejected out the open door when the
vehicle came to rest. Driver was not wearing seatbelt.
•Cause of death was from multiple “major trauma injuries”. No medical emergency was
found during autopsy.
