Subject: Update on Public Art Projects
Recommended Action
Receive the staff update on Public Art.
Executive Summary
Public Art Coordinator Tonya Rodzach will provide an update on various public art projects and
will introduce Christine Davis, Executive Director of the Carlsbad Village Association, who will
provide an overview of the Pop-Up Art project.
Discussion
Ms. Rodzach will provide an update on current Capital Improvements Projects that involve a
public art element. She will also share information on recent conservation efforts on the city’s
permanent public art collection, as well as give details on future ongoing maintenance. Ms.
Rodzach will provide a preview of some of the works of art featured in the newly refreshed
outdoor gallery space, the Carlsbad Sculpture Garden.
This staff presentation concludes with Ms. Davis who will offer insights on the collaborative
project between the Carlsbad Village Association and the City of Carlsbad’s Cultural Arts Office
which engages established artists through an array of mediums displayed in different
storefronts of local businesses in the Village.
All public art projects are supported by the city’s General Fund budget. Cultural Arts staff
continues to explore more options for broadening the potential of permanent and temporary
public art projects in 2021.
