Subject: Approval of the 2022 Regular City Council Meeting Calendar

Recommended Action
Adopt a resolution approving the 2022 Regular City Council Meeting Calendar.
Executive Summary/Discussion
The City Council establishes its regular meeting schedule annually by resolution. Adopting the
calendar by resolution meets Brown Act requirements (California Government Code Section
54954) and provides the City Council the opportunity to increase notification to the public of its
scheduled regular meetings. Special meetings can still be called as needed by providing 24-hour
notice before the time of the special meeting.
For calendar year 2022, staff propose two regular meetings per month except for October,
November, and December at which the City Council will consider routine agenda items such as
consent calendar items, ordinances, public hearings and departmental reports. In addition, for
all months except September, staff propose that the workshop-style meetings be intended for
the City Council to receive informational presentations that do not require City Council action
or to seek specific feedback from the community on a certain topic.
All virtual meetings will be scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. until the City Council directs staff
to resume in-person public meetings in accordance with Assembly Bill 361 - Open meetings:
state and local agencies: teleconferences, at which time all regular and workshop-style
meetings will be scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. at the Council Chamber at City Hall at 1200
Carlsbad Village Drive.
Fiscal Analysis
There are no significant fiscal impacts that would result from adoption of the attached
resolution.

Next Steps
The City Clerk Services Manager will distribute the approved calendar to the City Council, staff
and local newspapers. In addition, the calendar will be posted on the City’s website.
Environmental Evaluation
This action does not constitute a “project” within the meaning of the California Environmental
Quality Act under California Public Resources Code Section 21065 in that it has no potential to
cause either a direct physical change in the environment, or a reasonably foreseeable indirect
physical change in the environment. Therefore, it does not require environmental review.
Public Notification
This item was noticed in keeping with the Ralph M. Brown Act and it was available for public
viewing and review at least 72 hours before the scheduled meeting date.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARLSBAD, CALIFORNIA,
APPROVING THE 2022 REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING CALENDAR
Exhibit 1
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it will establish its scheduled regular meetings annually
by resolution; and
WHEREAS, the Ralph M. Brown Act, specifically California Government Code Section 54954, provides for
the establishment of an annual regular meeting calendar procedure; and
WHEREAS, all virtual meetings will be scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. until such time that the City
Council directs staff to return to in-person meetings pursuant to Assembly Bill 361, at which time all regular and
workshop-style meetings will be scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. at the Council Chamber located at 1200
Carlsbad Village Drive; and
WHEREAS, special meetings of the City Council will be called as necessary following the requirements of
the Brown Act, specifically California Government Code section 54956.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Carlsbad, California, as follows:
1. That the above recitations are true and correct.
2. That the 2022 calendar establishing the dates and locations for regular City Council meetings
(Attachment A) is approved.
3. That the 2022 calendar will be posted to the city's website.
4. That all virtual meetings will be scheduled to take place at 3 p.m. until such time that the City
Council directs staff to return to in-person meetings pursuant to Assembly Bill 361, at which
time all regular and workshop-style meetings will be scheduled to take place at 5 p.m. at the
Council Chamber located at 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. ,

Carlsbad on the 19th day of October 2021, by the following vote, to wit:
