The design shall include a 250 gpm response sprinklers hose stream allowance. (Ordinary Hazard Group 2 per designed to provide a NFPA 13, Figure 5-2.3) density of 0.20 gpm/square 17 ('5-' I foot over the most remote " / 3,000 square feet. (FM Data Sheet 3-26 Table 7) ,1 Callaway Golf Manufacturing Area 11 October 8, 1998 Carlsbad, CA SEC 2097131-000 HIGH-PILED STORAGE REQUIREMENTS The majority of the facility will be utilized for the manufacturing of golf balls. However, a small I amount of finished golf balls will be stored in a 15,400 square foot area. The finished golf balls will be stored in cardboard boxes in rack storage array to a maximum height of 25 feet. Golf balls, due to their composition of plastic and rubber, have been determined to be a high-hazard commodity. All other storage throughout the building will be below the threshold for high-piled storage. Separation of High-Piled Storage Areas Section 8102.3 of the UFC requires occupancy separation between multiple high-piled storage areas and separation of mixed occupancies in accordance with the UBC. Since high-piled storage will only occur in the finished product storage, occupancy separation between multiple high-piled storage areas does not apply. In accordance with Table 313 of the UBC, occupancy - separation is not required between a manufacturing (Group F, Division 1) occupancy and a storage (Group 5, Division 1) occupancy. Therefore occupancy separation of the high-piled storage area from other areas of-the facility is not required. Smoke I Heat Venting and Curtain Boards UFC Sections 8102.7 and 8102.8 require smoke vents and draft curtains in high-piled storage facilities base on specific size and commodity type. Since the finished goods storage area will exceed 2,500 square feet in size, smoke vents and draft curtains are required. The required Callaway Golf Manufacturing Area 12 October 8, 1998 Carlsbad, CA SEC 2097131-000 smoke/heat vents and draft curtains will extend to the lesser of 15 feet beyond the high piled storage area or to a permanent partition (UFC Section 8102.2). Smoke Heat vents will be provided at a ratio of I square foot of vent for every 40 square feet of - roof area over the high-piled storage area. Six foot deep curtain boards will be provided such that the maximum area formed by the curtain boards does not exceed 6,000 square. The - maximum spacing between vent centers will not exceed 90 feet and the maximum distance to vents from walls or curtain boards will not exceed 45 feet (UFC Table 81-13). 1 Small Hose Stations and Connections ] I % inch hose valves and stations shall be provided throughout the storage area such that all I storage is within reach of 100 feet of fire hose and a 30-foot hose stream (UFC Section 8102.9). Fire Department Access. 1 Access roadways are provided within 150 feet of the building on the east, west and north sides. Rutherford Road, a public street, will provide access to within 150 feet of the south side of the building (UFC Section 8102.6). Fire department access doors will be provided every 100 lineal feet or major fraction thereof, of the exterior walls that face required access roadways for the high-piled storage area (UFC 1. Section 8102.6.2.2). 1. •, Callaway Golf Manufacturing Area 13 0ct0ber8, 1998 Carlsbad, CA SEC 2097131-000 Aisles Aisles of a minimum width of 8 feet will be provided to exits and fire department access doors in the high-piled storage area containing high-hazard commodities (UFC Section 8102.10). Miscellaneous Requirements The following miscellaneous requirements for the high-piled storage area in accordance with Article 81 of the UFC will be provided: Smoking will be prohibited. Approved NO SMOKING signs will be conspicuously posted (UFC Section 8101.6.2.2). When restocking is not being conducted, aisles will be kept clear of storage, waste material and debris. Fire Department access doors, aisles and exit doors will not be obstructed (UFC Section 8101.6.3).
