OF CARLSBAD REGARDING GRADING SHOWN ON THIS SET OF PLANS.
2. APPROVAL OF THIS PLAN DOES NOT LESSEN OR WAIVE ANY PORTION OF THE
CARLSBAD MUNICIPAL CODE, RESOLUTION OF CONDmONAL APPROVAL, CITY
STANDARDS OR OTHER ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS LISTED HEREON AS THEY MA y
PERTAIN TO THIS PROJECT. THE ENGINEER IN RESPONSIBLE CHARGE SHALL
REVISE THESE PLANS WHEN NON-CONFORMANCE IS DISCOVERED.
3. CITY APPROVAL OF PLANS DOES NOT RELIEVE THE DEVELOPER OR ENGINEER-OPi-

HAVE A RATING OF "A-" OR BETTER AND A SIZE CATEGORY OF CLASS V OR BETTER
AS ESTABLISHED BY "BESTS" KEY RA TING GUIDE.
5. UNLESS EXEMPTED BY SECTION 301.(b)5 OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE,
RETAINING WALLS OUTSIDE OF PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY REQUIRE SEPARATE
PERMITS FROM THE BUILDING DEPARTMENT.
6. NO WORK SHALL BE COMMENCED UNTIL ALL PERMITS HAVE BEEN OBTAINED FROM

OF WORKER PROTECTION FROM THE HAZARD OF CAVING GROUND DURING THE
EXCAVA T/ON OF SUCH TRENCH OR TRENCHES OR DURING THE PIPE INSTALLATION
THEREIN. THIS PLAN MUST BE PREPARED FOR ALL TRENCHES FIVE FEET (5') OR
MORE IN DEPTH AND APPROVED BY THE CITY ENGINEER ANO/OR CONCERNED

20. ALL OPERATIONS CONDUCTED ON THE SITE OR ADJACENT THERETO, INCLUDING
WARMING UP, REPAIR, ARRIVAL, DEPARTURE OR OPERATION OF TRUCKS,
EARTHMOVING EQUIPMENT, CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT AND ANY OTHER ASSOCIATED
GRADING EQUIPMENT SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE PERIOD BETWEEN 7: 00 A.M. AND
SUNSET EACH DAY, MONDAY THRU FRIDAY AND NO EARTHMOVING OR GRADING
OPERATIONS SHALL BE CONDUCTED ON WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS. (A LIST OF CITY
HOUDA YS IS AVAILABLE AT THE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT COUNTER.)
21. ALL OFF-SITE HAUL ROUTES SHALL BE SUBMITTED BY THE CONTRACTOR TO THE
CITY ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL TWO FULL WORKING DAYS PRIOR TO BEGINNING OF
WORK.
22. IMPORT MATERIAL SHALL BE OBTAINED FROM, ANO WASTE MATERIAL SHALL BE
DEPOSITED AT, A SITE APPROVED BY TH£ CITY ENGINEER. THF CONTRACTOR
SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY OEBRIS OR DAMAGE OCC,URRING ALONG THE HAUL
ROUTES OR ADJACENT STREETS AS A RESULT OF THE GRADING OPERATION.
23. BRUSH SHALL BE REMOVED ONLY WITHIN THE AREA TO BE GRADED. NO TREES ARE
TO BE REMOVED UNLESS SPECIF/CALLY NOTED ON THE PLAN.
24. ALL AREAS SHALL BE GRADED TO DRAIN. GRADING RESULTING IN THE PONDING OF
WATER IS NOT PERMITTED. ALL EARTHEN SWALES AND DITCHES SHALL HA VE A
MINIMUM ONE PERCENT SLOP£.
25. THESE PLANS ARE SUBJECT TO A SIGNED AND APPROVED SET OF EROSION
CONTROL PLANS. EROSION CONTROL SHALL BE AS SHOWN AND AS APPROVED BY
THE CITY ENGINEER OR AS DIRECTED BY THE PROJECT INSPECTOR.
26. ALL SLOPES SHALL BE TRIMMED TO A FINISH GRAD£ TO PRODUCE A UNIFORM
SURFACE AND CROSS SECTION. THE SITE SHALL BE LEFT IN A NEAT AND
OROERL Y CONDITION. ALL STONES, ROOTS OR OTHER DEBRIS SHALL BE REMOVED
AND DISPOSED or AT A SITE APPROVED OF BY TH£ CITY ENGINEER.
27. ALL SLOPES SHALL BE IRRIGATED, STABILIZED, PLANTED AND/OR HYOROSEEOED
WITHIN TEN (10) DAYS OF THE TIM£ WHEN EACH SLOPE IS BROUGHT TO GRADE
AS SHOWN ON THE APPROVED GRADING PLANS.
28. LANDSCAPING SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED ON ALL SLOPES AND PADS AS REQUIRED
BY THE CITY OF CARLSBAQ LANDSCAPE MANUAL. THE LANDSCAPING PLANS FOR
THIS PROJECT, DRAWING NO. ____ , AND/OR , AS DIRECTED BY THE CITY
ENGINEER OR PLANNING DIRECTOR.
29. THE OWNER/APPLICANT SHALL INSURE THAT ALL CONTRACTORS SHALL COORDINATE
THE WORK OF THESE GRADING PLANS WITH THAT SHOWN ON BOTH THE LANDSCAPE
AND IRRIGATION PLANS AND THE IMPROVEMENT PLANS AS REQUIRED FOR THIS
WORK IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LANDSCAPE MANUAL TIME REQUIREMENTS.
30. WHERE AN EXISTING PIPE LIN£ IS TO BE ABANDONED AS A RESULT OF THE

1.0 MATERIAL
1.1 BACKFILL SOILS
1.1.1 REINFORCED AND RETAINED BACKFILL S_HALL BE¾-INCH TO 11/2-INCH UNIFORMLY GRADED, ANGULAR COARSE AGGREGATE WITH A WASH LOSS OF NO MORE THAN 0.5% AND
SHALL HAVE 40% VOIDS AS MEASURED BY ASTM-C29. THE MATERIAL SHALL MEET ASTM D2488 ANGULAR OR SUBANGULAR CLASSIFICATION. THE MATERIAL HARDNESS SHALL BE
MEASURED PER AASHTO T96 (LA ABRASION TEST)AND EXHIBIT A MAXIMUM LOSS OF 40%. FREEZE-THAW RESISTANCE SHALL BE MEASURED PER AASHTO T104 WITH A MAXIMUM LOSS
OF 12% AFTER 5 CYCLES IN MAGNESIUM SULFATE SOLUTION. BACKFILL SHALL BE APPROVED BY OWNER OR OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE.
1.1.2 BASE LAYER MATERIALS (AS NEEDED-SEE SECTION 2.3) BELOW THE LINER SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF AASHTO M 145 FORA-1, A-2, OR A-3." (< 35% PASSING #200
SIEVES).
1.2 LINER MATERIALS
1.2.1 GEOTEXTILE Sl-jALL BE 8 OZ/SY (MARV) MATERIAL PER ASTM 5261 MANUFACTURED FROM POLYPROPYLENE OR POL VESTER FIBERS. THE PUNCTURE STRENGTH SHALL BE 240
LBS (MARV) PER ASTM D483.
1.2.2 ACCUGEO 30 MM PVC IMPERMEABLE LINER (OR EQUIVALENT).
1.3 GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE A GEOG RID WITH A LONG TERM ALLOWABLE DESIGN STRENGTH (L TADS) EQUAL TO 1,900 LBS/FT WITH THE SPECIFIED BACKFILL IN
THE LOAD BEARING DIRECTION (PERPENDICULAR TO THE WALL FACE) PER GRI-GG4. THE APPERTURE DIMENSION SHALL BE 3/8 INCH X 3/8 INCH (MIN) AND 1.0 INCH X 1.0 INCH (MAX).
1.4 CONCRETE AND REINFORCING STEEL SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS NOTED ON THE APPLICABLE PLAN SHEETS.
2.0 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
2.1 THE OWNER OR OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE SHALL VERIFY THAT THE BACKFILL MEETS THE GRADATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF SECTION 1.1 PRIOR TO PROCEEDING
. WITH CONSTRUCTION.
2.2 PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION OF THE GEOSTORAGE® SYSTEM, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CLEAR AND GRUB THE FLOOR OF THE GEOSTORAGE® SYSTEM REMOVING TOPSOIL,
BRUSH, SOD OR OTHER ORGANIC OR DELETERIOUS MATERIAL. ANY UNSUITABLE SOILS SHALL BE OVER-EXCAVATED, REPLACED AND COMPACTED WITH THE BASE LAYER BACKFILL.
2.3 FOUNDATION SHALL BE PROOF ROLL INSPECTED USING A LOADED TRUCK WITH 18 KIP AXLE LOADS. THE OWNER OR THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE SHALL CONFIRM THAT THE
FOUNDATION HAS BEEN PROPERLY PREPARED BEFORE PLACEMENT OF THE LINER SYSTEM ..
2.4 STONE BACKFILL FOR THE PERIMETER WALLS AND PIERS (WHERE APPLICABLE) SHALL BE PLACED IN LAYERS NOT EXCEEDING 9 INCHES. COMPACTION WILL BE DETERMINED ON
THE BASIS OF NONMOVEMENT OF THE MAT_ERIAL. THREE PASSES OF A VIBRATORY PLATE WITH A CETRIGUGAL FORCE OF 2500 LBS. SHALL BE REQUIRED ON EVERY LIFT.
2.5 TESTING METHODS AND FREQUENCY AND VERIFICATION OF MATERIAL PROPERIES SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OWNER OR OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE.
2.6 A COMPLETE SET OF APPROVED CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS AND CONTRACT SPECIFICATIONS SHALL BE ON SITE AT ALL TIMES DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE
GEOSTORAGE® SYSTEM.
3.0 INSTALLATION
3.1 GEOTEXTILE SHALL BE PLACED TO THE LINES AND GRADES SHOWN ON THE PLANS. GEOTEXTILE SEAMS SHALL BE OVERLAPPED 3 FEET OR SEWN IN A "PRAYER" SEAM WITH A 6
INCH OVERLAP OR HEAT LYSTERED WITH A 6 INCH OVERLAP. AT PIPE PENETRATIONS THE GEOTEXTILE SHALL BE CUT AND CLAMPED AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS TO INSURE NO SOILS
MIGRATE THROUGH THE OPENING.
3.2 WELDED WIRE FORMS SHALL BE PLACED TO THE LINES AND GRADES SHOWN ON THE PLANS. WHERE NECESSARY THE FORMS SHALL BE NESTED AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS TO
MATCH THE REQUIRED WALL HEIGHT.
3.3 GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE PLACED TO THE LINES AND GRADES SHOWN ON THE PLANS.
3.3.1 GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMNT SHALL BE CONTINUOUS THROUGHOUT THE'IR EMBEDMENT LENGTH(S). GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT SEAMS SHALL BE OVERLAPPED A
MINIMUM OF 6 INCHES AT THE FACE OF ALL WALLS AND PIERS.
3.3.2 GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT SHALL BE PLACED FLAT AND FREE QF WRINKLES. GEOSYNTHETIC MATERIAL USED TO WRAP THE FACE OF WALLS AND PIERS SHOULD BE
PULLED TAUGHT BEFORE BEING BACKFILLED ... IF SLACK IS OBSERVED IN THE WRAP FACE OF WALLS OR PIERS, MATERIALS SHALL BE REMOVED AS NEEDED TO REMEDY THE
SITUATION.
3.3.3 GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT LOCATED AT MID HEIGHT OF THE WELDE[) WIRE FORM SHALL B_E CUT PERPENDICULAR TO THE WALL LENGTH TO ACCOMMODATE THE
SUPPORT STRUTS. THE FRONT OF THE GEOSYSNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT SHALL BUTT AGAINST THE WALL FACE ..
3.3.4 AT WALL ANO PIER CORNERS GEOGRID SHALL BE INSTALLED TO PREVENT RAVELING OF STONE AT ACORNER SEAM. THE GEOGRID SHALL EXTEND A MINIMUM OF 18 INCHES ON
EITHER SIDE OF THE SEAM. THE TOP AND BOTTOM OF THE GE_OGID SPLICE SHALL BE CUT TO ALLOW FOR THE 90 DEGREE BEND. PLASTIC TIES SHALL BE USED TO SECURE THE
GEOGRID SPLICE TO TH.E MAIN REINFORCEMENT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE SPLICE. WHERE THE WALL IS STEPPED A SPLICE PATCH SHALL BE PLACED OVER THE EXPOSED STONE AT
THE CORNER NOTCH AND SECURED WITH PLASTIC TIES.
3.3.5 TRACKED CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT SHALL NOT BE OPERATED DIRECTLY ON ANY GEOSYNTHETIC MATERIAL. RUBBER-TIRED VEHICLES MAY OPERATE ON TOP OF
GEOSYNTHETIC MATERIALS AT SPEEDS LESS THAN 10 MPH. SUDDEN BRAKING AND SHARP TURNS SHALL NOT BE PERMITTED.
3.3.6 IN THE EVENt THAT THE GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT IS TORN AT THE FACE OF A WALL OR PIER THE OWNER QR OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE ON SITE SHALL BE NOTIFIED
IMMEDIATELY. AT THE OWNER'S DISCRETION THE TEAR MAY BE REPAIRED WITH HOPE !:\RAID SPLICED OVER THE TEAR AND EXTENDING A MINIMUM OF 6 INCHES BEYOND THE TEAR.
THE BRAID CONNECTION TO THE GEOSYNTHETIC REINFORCEMENT SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM ULTIMATE STRENGTH OF 1900 LBS/FT.
4.0 DRAINAGE
