Recordall® Compound Series Meter
Badger Meter Lead-Free Bronze Alloy, Sizes 2' 3'. 4 & 6"
NSF/ANSI Standards 61 and 372 Certified
DESCRIPTION
The Recordall Compound Series meters meet or exceed the most
recent revision of AWWA Standard C700 and are available in a lead-
free bronze alloy. The Compound Series meters comply
with the lead-free provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act, are
certified to NSF/ANSI Standards 61 and 372 (Trade Designation:
LL-NS) and carry the NSF-61 mark on the housing. All components
of the lead-free bronze alloy meter (housing, measuring element,
seals, and so on) comprise the certified system.
Badger Meter Recordall Compound Series meters combine two
metering technologies in one innovative package. A positive
displacement chamber measures low flow, while a turbine
chamber records high flow.
Offered in four sizes, the Compound Series meter features:
Patented design that eliminates the need for a trigger valve and
maintains crossover accuracy.
Permanently sealed, tamper-resistant register or encoder.
Meters and encoders that are compatible with Badger Meter
AMR/AMI systems and other approved reading technologies
Badger Meter ORION and GALAXY AMR/AMI meter reading
systems are available for all Compound Series meters.
ltron ERT reading systems are also available. An optional
summator can be provided as an integral part of the register
assembly. All register options are removable from the meter
without disrupting water service.
TAMPER-PROOF FEATURES
Unauthorized removal of the register or encoder is inhibited by
the use of an optional tamper detection seal wire screw, TORX
tamper-resistant seal screw or the proprietary tamper-resistant
keyed seal screw. Each can be installed at the meter site or at
the factory.
APPLICATIONS
Use the Recordall Compound meter for measuring potable cold
water in commercial and industrial applications where flow is in
one direction only. The meter is an ideal choice for facilities that
experience rapid and wide fluctuations in water demand, such as
hospitals, universities, residential complexes and manufacturing or
processing facilities.
OPERATION
At low flow rates, the Compound Series meter diverts water up
through a bypass to the disc chamber. Leaving the chamber's
outlet port, water flows beyond the turbine element and main
valve. As the flow rate increases, a pressure differential is created
that opens the main valve. The water then flows straight through
the turbine chamber. In addition, a portion still flows through the
disc chamber before exiting the meter.
RCS-DS-00078-EN-02 (September 2013)
Rotor and disc movements are transmitted by magnetic drive
couplings to individual register odometers. The direct magnetic
drive provides a positive, reliable and dependable register coupling
for straight-reading or remote reading options. The self-lubricating
thermoplastic register gearing is designed to minimize friction and
provide long life.
OPERATING PERFORMANCE
The Recordall Compound Series meets or exceeds registration
accuracy for low, normal operating, maximum continuous
operation, and changeover flow rates as specified in AWWA
Standard C702.
CONSTRUCTION
The Recordall Compound Series meter's construction complies
with ANSI and AWWA C702 standards. It consists of three basic
components: meter housing, interchangeable measuring elements,
and sealed direct reading registers. The measuring element consists
of the disc measuring chamber, turbine head assembly, and high
flow valve assembly. To simplify maintenance, the registers and
measuring elements can be removed without removing the meter
housing from the line.
METER INSTALLATION
The meter is designed for installations where flow is in one
direction only. A separate strainer is required to ensure optimum
flow conditioning and protection of the measuring element.
Companion flanges for installation of meters on various pipe types
and sizes are available in cast iron or NL bronze as an option.

REGISTERS I ENCODERS
Standard-Sweep-Hand Registration
The standard register is a straight-reading, permanently sealed magnetic drive register. Dirt, moisture, tampering and lens fogging
problems are eliminated. The register has a six-odometer wheel totalization display, 3600 test circle with center sweep hand, and flow finder
to detect leaks. Register gearing is made of self-lubricating engineered polymer, which minimizes friction and provides long life. The multi-
position register simplifies meter installation and reading. The register capacity is 100,000,000 gallons (10,000,000 ft3, 1,000,000 m3).
Optional-Encoders for AMR/AMI Reading Solutions
AMR/AMI solutions are available for all Recordall Compound Series meters. All reading options can be removed from the meter without
disrupting water service. Badger Meter encoders provide years of reliable, accurate readings for a variety of applications and are also
available pre-wired to Badger Meter approved AMR/AMl solutions. See details at www.badgermeter.com.

Product Description
Model RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49 Concealed Residen-
tial Sprinklers are fast response residential fusible solder
link automatic sprinklers. Residential sprinklers differ
from standard sprinklers primarily in their response time
and water distribution patterns.
Model RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49 sprinklers discharge
water in a hemispherical pattern below the sprinkler de-
flector. Residential distribution patterns are higher and
generally contain a finer droplet size than standard sprin-
kler patterns.
The combination of speed of operation and high dis-
charge pattern required for residential sprinklers has
demonstrated, in fire testing, an ability for controlling
residential fires, and thereby providing significant evacu-
ation time for occupants.
The RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49 Sprinklers provide the
best form of fire protection by combining an attractive ap-
pearance and ½" (13mm) of cover adjustment for ease
of installation. The small diameter cover plate is easily

Perforated Cover Plate
and positively attached and blends into the ceiling, con-
cealing the most dependable fire protection available, an
automatic sprinkler system.
The RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49 are UL Listed Residen-
tial Sprinklers to be installed in the residential portions
of any occupancy in accordance with NFPA 13, 13R, &
13D.
The RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49 can reduce the need
for precise cutting of drop nipples. The threaded cover
plate assembly can be adjusted without tools to fit ac-
curately against the ceiling. The fire protection system
need not be shut down to adjust or remove the cover
plate assembly.
Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co., Inc., 103 Fairview Park Drive, Elmsford, New York 10523
Application and Installation
The RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49, for residential instal-
lations, use a 165°F (74°C) fusible solder link in a tun-
ing fork style sprinkler frame with a drop-down deflector.
This assembly is recessed into the ceiling and concealed
by a flat cover plate. The cover plate is attached to the
skirt, using 135°F (57°C) ordinary temperature classifica-
tion solder. When the ceiling temperature rises, the solder
holding the cover plate releases the cover allowing the
deflector to drop into position and exposing the sprinkler
inside to ceiling temperature. The subsequent operation
of the solder link opens the waterway and causes the de-
flector to drop into position to distribute the discharging
water in a hemispherical pattern below the sprinkler de-
flector. Any adjustment of thread engagement between
the cover plate and cup will assure that the drop-down
deflector is properly located below the ceiling. The resi-
dential distribution pattern contains a finer droplet size
than a standard sprinkler, and the pattern produces sig-
nificantly higher wall wetting.
After a 2 /8 inch diameter hole is cut in the ceiling, the
sprinkler is to be installed with the Model FC Wrench.
When installing a sprinkler, the wrench is first positioned
into the sprinkler/cup assembly and around the hexago-
nal body of the sprinkler frame. The Wrench must bottom
out against the cup in order to ensure proper, safe instal-
lation. The sprinkler is then tightened into the pipe fitting.
When inserting or removing the wrench from the sprin-
kler/cup assembly, care should be taken to prevent dam-
age to the sprinkler. DO NOT WRENCH ON ANY OTHER
PART OF THE SPRINKLER/CUP ASSEMBLY. MODEL
RFC30, RFC43 AND RFC49 CONCEALED SPRINKLERS
MUST BE INSTALLED ONLY WITH 135°F RATED COV-
ERS.
Note: A leak tight ½" NPT (R1/2) sprinkler joint can be ob-
tained with a torque of 8-18 ft-lbs (10,8 - 24,4 N-m). Do not
tighten sprinklers over maximum recommended torque. It
may cause leakage or impairment of the sprinklers.
Cover assemblies provide up to 1/2" (13mm) of adjust-
ment. Turn the cover clockwise until the flange is in con-
tact with the ceiling. For the push-on/thread-off option,
the cover assembly is pushed onto the cup and final ad-
justment is made by turning the cover clockwise until the
skirt flange makes full contact with the ceiling. Cover re-
moval requires turning in the counter-clockwise direction.
In ceilings that have a plenum space above the
sprinkler, the plenum space may have neutral or neg-
ative pressurization but must not be positively pres-
surized. Inspect all sprinklers after installation to en-
sure that the gap between the cover plate and ceiling
and the 4 slots in the cup are all open and free from
any air flow impediment.

Maintenance
Model RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49 Concealed Sprin-
klers should be inspected and the sprinkler system
maintained in accordance with NFPA 25. Do not clean
sprinklers with soap and water, ammonia or any other
cleaning fluids. Remove dust by using a soft brush or
gentle vacuuming. Remove any sprinkler cover plate as-
sembly which has been painted (other than factory ap-
plied) or damaged in any way. A stock of spare sprin-
klers should be maintained to allow quick replacement
of damaged or operated sprinklers. Prior to installation,
sprinklers should be maintained in the original cartons
and packaging until used to minimize the potential for
damage to sprinklers that would cause improper opera-
tion or non-operation.
Model RFC30, RFC43 and RFC49 Residential
Concealed Sprinkler Specification

The low flow Fl Res sprinklers are specially
engineered for fast thermal response to meet the
sensitive fire protection application needs of the latest
residential market standards (UL 1626 Standard). Upon
fire conditions, rising heat causes a sprinkler's
heat-sensitive glass-bulb to shatter, releasing the
waterway for water flow onto the deflector, evenly
distributing the discharged water to control a fire.

Maintenance
Model Fl Res 30, 49, Fl Res 58, Fl Res 76, Fl Res 44
and Fl Res 40 Sprinklers should be inspected quarterly,
and the sprinkler system maintained in accordance with
NFPA 25, 13, 130, and 13R. Do not clean sprinkler with
soap and water, Ammonia or any other cleaning fluids.
Remove dust by using a soft brush or gentle vacuuming.
Remove any sprinkler which has been painted (other than
factory applied) or damaged in any way. A stock of spare
sprinklers should be maintained to allow quick
replacement of damaged or operated sprinklers. Prior to
installation, sprinklers should remain in the original cartons
and packaging until used. This will minimize the potential
for damage to sprinklers that could cause improper
operation or non-operation.

times faster than standard response sprinklers. This quick
response enables the Model Fl FR Series sprinklers to apply
water to a fire faster than standard-response sprinklers of the
same temperature rating.
The glass bulb consists of an accurately controlled amount
of special fluid hermetically sealed inside a precisely man-
ufactured glass capsule. This glass bulb is specially con-
structed to provide fast thermal response.
Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co., Inc., 103 Fairview Park Drive, Elmsford, New York 10523
At normal temperatures, the glass bulb contains the fluid
in both the liquid and vapor phases. The vapor phase can
be seen as a small bubble. As heat is applied, the liquid
expands, forcing the bubble smaller and smaller as the liq-
uid pressure increases. Continued heating forces the liquid
to push out against the bulb, causing the glass to shatter,
opening the waterway and allowing the deflector to distrib-
ute the discharging water.
Model Fl FR Series sprinklers provide a wide range of op-
tions where quick-response, glass bulb sprinklers are used:
Pendent, recessed pendent, upright, horizontal side-
wall, and vertical sidewall deflectors
K-factors of 2.8 (40 metric), 4.0 (57 metric), 4.2 (60
metric), and 5.6 (80 metric)
Flush, recessed, and concealed installations
See the Design and Installation Information table in this
Bulletin for information on the approvals and availability of
specific Model Fl FR series sprinkler configurations.
Model F1FR Recessed Pendent and Recessed Horizon-
tal Sidewall sprinklers are required to be used with Reliable
Model El, F2, or FP recessed escutcheons. See the Re-
cessed Escutcheon Data table in this Bulletin for listing and
approval information with each specific Model F1FR series
sprinkler. Model Fl and F2 recessed escutcheons, shown in
Fig. 1 and 3, are a friction fit assembly allowing for 3/4-inch
(19mm) and 1/2-inch (12.7mm) of adjustment, respectively.
Model FP recessed escutcheons, shown in Fig. 2, provide a
1/2-inch (12.7mm) threaded adjustment.
Model E1FR56 Concealed Pendent and Model F1FR56LL
Concealed Pendent sprinklers are required to be used with
Model CCP cover plates. A standard profile Model CCP cov-
er plate is available that provides up to 1/2-inch (12.7mm) of
cover plate adjustment. In addition, a low profile Model CCP
cover plate is also available that provides up to 5/16-inch
(8.0mm) of cover plate adjustment. See the Design and In-
stallation Information and Listed and Approved Temperature
Ratings tables in this Bulletin for further information on ap-
proved cover plate options.
Application
Model F1FR Series sprinklers are intended for use in
accordance with NEPA 13, FM Property Loss Prevention
Data Sheets, and the requirements of the Authority Hav-
ing Jurisdiction. Care must be exercised that the k-factor,
temperature rating, deflector style, and sprinkler type are
in accordance with the requirements of the applicable
design and installation standards. In addition, Model
FlEA Series sprinklers must be used in accordance with
their listings and approvals, as well as the information
provided in this Bulletin.
Installation
Glass bulb sprinklers have orange bulb protectors or pro-
tective caps to minimize bulb damage during shipping, han-
dling and installation. Reliable sprinkler installation wrench-
es are designed to install sprinklers with bulb protectors in
place. Remove the bulb protector at the time when the sprin-
kler system is placed in service for fire protection. Removal
of the bulb protector before this time may leave the bulb vul-
nerable to damage. Remove bulb protectors by undoing the
clasp by hand. Do not use tools to remove bulb protectors.
2.
Model F1FR Series sprinklers must be installed with the
Reliable sprinkler installation wrench identified in the Design
and Installation Information table in this Bulletin. Any other
wrench may damage the sprinkler. A leak tight sprinkler joint
can be obtained with a torque of 8 to 18 lb-ft (11 to 24 N-m).
Do not tighten sprinklers over the maximum recommended
installation torque. Exceeding the maximum recommended
installation torque may cause leakage or impairment of the
sprinkler.
Recessed Sprinklers
Model Fl FR Series Recessed sprinklers are to be installed
as shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 2, or Fig. 3, as applicable to the spe-
cific model being installed. The Recessed Escutcheon Data
table in the Bulletin identifies the only recessed escutcheons
that are permitted to be used with each Model Fl FR Series
Recessed sprinkler. The use of any other recessed escutch-
eon will void all approvals and negate all warranties.
Concealed Sprinklers
Model F1FR Series Concealed Pendent sprinklers are to
be installed as shown in Fig. 4 or Fig. 5, as applicable to the
selected cover plate. Model Fl FR56 Concealed Pendent
and Model El FR56LL Concealed Pendent sprinklers have
a factory-installed Model CCP cup. A protective cap is in-
stalled at the factory that should remain on the sprinkler until
the sprinkler is installed and should then be reinstalled on
the sprinkler until the cover plate is installed. The concealed
sprinkler assemblies are completed by the installation of a
Model CCP push-on/thread-off cover plate assembly. The
cover plate and sprinkler cup assemblies are joined using
a cover plate skirt with flexible tabs for threaded engage-
ment. A choice of two Model CCP cover plate assemblies
provides either 1/2-inch (13mm) or 5/8-inch (8mm) of cover
adjustment. Do not install Model F1FR Series Concealed
Pendent sprinklers in ceilings which have positive pressure
in the space above.
Model F1FR Series Concealed Pendent sprinklers require a
2-5/8-inch (67mm) diameter hole to be cut in the ceiling. The
Model RC1 wrench is used to engage the sprinkler wrenching
surfaces and to install the sprinkler in the fitting. Remove the
protective cap to install the sprinkler, then reinstall the protective
cap until the cover plate is installed. When inserting or remov-
ing the wrench from the sprinkler/cup assembly, care should be
taken to prevent damage to the sprinkler. Do not wrench any
other part of the sprinkler/cup assembly Installation is com-
pleted by removing the protective cap from the sprinkler and
pushing the cover plate onto the cup. Anal adjustment is made
by hand turning the cover plate until the skirt flange makes full
contact with the ceiling. Cover plate removal requires turning the
cover plate in the counter clockwise direction. After installation,
inspect all sprinklers to ensure that there is a gap between the
cover plate and ceiling and that the four cup slots are open and
free from any air flow impediment to the space above.
Concealed cover plate/cup assemblies are listed only for
use with specific sprinklers. The use of any concealed cover
plate/cup assembly other than the Reliable Model CCP with
Model F1FR56 Concealed Pendent and Model F1FR56LL
Concealed Pendent sprinklers or the use of the Model CCP
Concealed cover plate assembly on any sprinkler with which
it is not specifically listed my prevent good fire protection and
will void all guarantees, warranties, listings and approvals.

Maintenance
The Model Fl FR Series sprinklers should be inspected and
the sprinkler system maintained in accordance with NFPA
25. Do not clean sprinklers with soap and water, ammonia or
any other cleaning fluids. Remove dust by using a soft brush
or gentle vacuuming. Replace any sprinkler which has been
painted (other than factory applied) or damaged in any way.
A stock of spare sprinklers should be maintained to allow
quick replacement of damaged or operated sprinklers.

Note: Fitting Legend provides equivalent pipe lengths for fittings types of various diameters.
Equivalent lengths shown are standard for actual diameters of Sched 40 pipe and CFactors
of 120 except as noted with * The fittings marked with a * show equivalent lengths values
supplied by manufacturers based on specific pipe diameters and CFactors and they require no
adjustment. All values for fittings not marked with a * will be adjusted in the calculation
for CFactors of other than 120 and diameters other than Sched 40 per NFPA.
