feet, above and below, and must have the long
side open to the room below except for posts
and protective walls or railings not exceeding
44" in height. Section 1717.
The loft you show does not comply as a
1 mezzanine floor and is, by Uniform Building
Code definition, a story. Section 1717.

less than 4". The triangular openings formed
by the riser, tread and bottom elements of a
guardrail at a stair shall be less than 611.

Heavy timber framing, minimum 6" x 10" beams
